Kratom leaf (Mitragyna speciosa)

Featured Replies

Construction worker gave me some kratom leaves to chew today.

Of course I then had to google it.

Not illegal in the US but used to be here in Thailand. But it's illegality, under the Kratom Act 1943 was for economic reasons because it's use was affecting the Thai government's tax take from the opium trade. In 2010 it was proposed to de-criminalise it, and in 2013 that went through, as I read it.

According to Wiki, "Kratom behaves as a μ-opioid receptor agonist like morphine[5] and is used in the management of chronic pain, as well as recreationally.["

My wife suggested I don't have any more, and I won't because it was rather bitter and the little I had didn't do anything (to relieve my back pain, of course).

Used quite a lot down South here.

A very interesting side affect, according to wifey, users become hydrophobic. They are scared of the rain and will go months without taking a shower.

Anyone have any experience of "bai kratom"?
