I've got a temporay 1 year passport from Canada after putting my regular one through the laundry.

I've travelled to work (offshore) from Thailand on the temporay passport while a new one was being ordered and sent to the Bangkok embassy

The new passport is now in the Canadian embassy in Bangkok.

My old passport which I have copies of has 4 consecutive retirement extensions

Next week I hope to travel from work into Bangkok.

Question:

Any problems to enter into Thailand on a temporay passport hoping to get a visa on arrival? Once I get my replacement I have to start the process to replace my previous stamps.

No problem.

But did you transfer the extension to the replacement passport before you left and got a re-entry permit? it seems not and in that case you will indeed just get a visa exempt entry and will need to start the proces of applying foran extension of stay (and conversion or a new visa) al over again.

Before leaving the country you should of went to immigration to get your extension and re-entry stamps put in your temporary passport.

If you have your damaged passport and the re-entry permit in it is legible enough thay might give you a permit to stay date equal to what it has on it.

If not you will get a visa exempt entry and have to start all over again by getting a non-o visa and extension. If you can get your financial proof together within 15 days of arrival you could apply for a conversion to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry and then apply for the extension after that.

Before leaving the country I went to Bangkok Immigration with my temp passport and copies of all stamps from my damaged passport, Canada embassy kept the damaged passport.

My retirement extension has always been done up North at Sahkon Nahkon, and as I was leaving for work the next day had no chance to get up there from Bangkok.

Bangkok Immigration refused to transfer the extension to the temp passport. They could pull up all the information on the computer and even talked to my immigration officer up North. Had a notarized letter from Canadian embassy and ALL copies of old passport. It took 6 hours just to get an entry stamp so I could leave the next day.

It was 6 hours of complete runaround, they didn't want to deal with it and keep passing my paperwork from girl to girl. There reply was must go to Sahkon Nahkon.

One girl said to go to Sahkon Panom and when I pointed out the error she said, " You have too many stamps in your passport, GO AWAY" threw the paperwork down and left.

Now:

Assuming I can enter on my temp passport, I have to go to the embassy and pick up my new passport. Temp passport is kept by embassy, non-negotiable there.

Do I have to go with my copies of the temp passport stamps back to the black hole of Bangkok Immigration to transfer over my entery stamp? or can I do this up North at Sahkon Nahkon where I know the immigrtion guy and he knows me?

What BKK-immigration was telling you is that you should have gone to your own immigration office in Sakhon Nakhon.

It seems BKK-immigraiton only transferred your entry details so you could leave the country and the big question is if you paid 1,000 baht for a re-entry permit? Do you have a stamp in your passport that says re-entry permit?

If not, you lost your extension of stay and have to aply for a new non-O visa before you can get a enw extension of stay based on retirement.
