The Labour Ministry moves to protect immigrant child workers from abuse

The Labour Protection and Welfare Department confirms findings of a study that Thailand is using a large number of child labourers whose parents are immigrant workers.

Department chief Padungsak Thephasdin na Ayutthaya (ผดุงศักดิ์ เทพหัสดิน ณ อยุธยา) said a lot of children brought along to Thailand by alien workers were used as labourers and were sometime abused by their employers.

Mr. Padungsak said the Labour Ministry has set up a national-level committee to work out measures to prevent illegal use and abuse of child labour. A network of labour inspectors is also being formed to protect alien children from any mistreatment.

Mr. Padungsak called on the Social Development and Human Security, Education and Public Health ministries to also help prevent the misuse of immigrant child labour

measures to prevent illegal use and abuse of child labour.

Surely child labour is banned under an Intenational Treaty to which Thailand is a signatory?

So all use of child labour must be illegal!!!!!!!!
