Visa overstay fine

Featured Replies

Hi, I have realised that I am accidently going to overstay my 30 day visa (I thought that it was a 1 month visa, entered Thailand on the 2nd of August and my flight home is on the 2nd of September). Reading my Lonely Planet guide it says that it is possible to pay a fine at either the airport or the immigration office to stay extra days (500B per day). I was wondering if this information is still correct and how much hassle this is likely to cause me at the airport if I do it there? (I fly out of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi)

Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere else, I did have a look!

Thanks,

Matt

Just pay 500 per day at the airport. Don't get caught before then!

Or, the better option.......go to immigration and extend your stay for 7 days.

or dont.. you will be fine

if you are only over by one day they will likely waive the fine

The fine is 500 baht a day. You can pay for it on departure at the airport.

Or you can apply for an extension at immigration that will cost 1900 baht.

2 days overstay means a 1,000 baht fine. Pay at the airport and get an overstay stamp in your Passport or get the extension as Joe said.

Thanks for the help, how much does the 7 day extension cost? Is it much hassle paying the fine at the airport does anyone know?

As I said it is 1900 baht for an extension.

One or two day overstays like yours is very common and is handled at the airport as a routine matter. Just allow a little extra time to get it done.

No, it is not a hassle. But it is illegal to overstay your stamp. Lots of people do it, but it is still illegal. Call me a square, but I try not to break any laws when I am here in Thailand (however, I try not to break laws in my home country either).
