Visa Exempt - Extension

Featured Replies

I am a NZ Passport holder whom has been working offshore for the last 10 years, returning for a month (30 days on average) 4 times a year to Thailand. I recently returned to Thailand on the 16th Aug 14 & received a 30 Day Visa Exempt without any noticeable differences from previous Visa's, there were no questions asked, I had 2 previous Visa Exempt stamps for this year with the most recent one being the period 16 May - 14 June 14. My question is about applying for a 7 day extension on top of my current 'due to depart' stamp which is for the 14th Sep 14,

1: Can I apply at any immigration office throughout Thailand, bearing in mind I only have a Visa Exempt 30 dayer??

2: Do I still need to apply for the 7 Day extension within the last week of my current Visa or can I apply at any time??

PS: I HAVE applied for an extension on a Visa Exempt previously, without any dramas, however it was a while ago now & I was just after any helpful info updates..

Look for to any helpful info, especially from Ubonjoe as you appear to be 'on the money' always...

Starting tomorrow you can get a 30 day extension for a visa exempt entry. No need for the 7 days to leave anymore.

You can apply for it a couple of weeks before your entry ends. The fee is 1900 baht.

I was told this too but I just realised that the info from the immigration statement says it's for extension of a 30 day stamp. My 14 day stamp expires tomorrow. Can I extend this or not??

You can extend any visa exempt entry for 30 days.

You could be one of first to get one if you go tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the last day on my current exemption so I certainly will be going tomorrow. Any idea where immigration office is in pattaya? Will Moto driver know where to go if I say immigration office?

It's in Jomtien, you better take a tuk-tuk to avoid extortion.

There are no tuk Tuks here. You mean songtheaw?

The pickup truck carryng people, whatever you want to call it.

Any idea where immigration office is in pattaya?

Soi 5, Jomthien. It's closer to the Jomthien 2nd road than the beach road. Easy to find.

Well it turns out they haven't heard of the 30 day thing. They wanted to give me 7 days. I paid extra to extend 2 weeks instead.

Now they are saying actually they can only give me 7 days.

Apparently not. Maybe it will take a while to sink in

It would make sense to have it starting after close of business today so they have weekend to change procedures - but not written that way. I suspect it is for Monday morning start.

Bangkok apparently know about doing them but denied one because a person had a 7 days extension.

They actually put in a 15 day extension and then hanged their mind and voided it. I now have a void stamp and a new stamp that says 'your application has been denied, you now have 7 days to leave the kingdom'. Is this going to cause problems when I try to re enter or apply for a new tourist visa?

I meant to say changed their mind not hanged their mind.

No problem with the 7 days to leave the country stamp for doing or getting anything later.

Ok so it's not like a black mark against my name or anything? I am planning to leave Thailand and come back about 3 weeks later, hoping that will be fine.

Of course as you've been told above already, there no consequences, it is a normal administrative act.

No problem. It is not a black mark. Immigration does those 7 days all the time it is a way to give people time to leave the country when they do not qualify for any extension.

Thanks so far to the replies, my other question, however, has still not been answered, I am currently in Wichianburi, Petchabun, where is the nearest Immigration Office to me where I can apply for an extension on my current Visa Exempt 30 Dayer?? If I have to go to Bangkok to apply where in Bangkok would I need to go?? I did one approx. 3 years ago (the basic 7 Days extension) & that was done at the Suan Plu Office....

Once again Gents, Thanks for all the Info. Just an update on my recent Extension to a Visa Exempt (NZ Passport).

With my Visa due to expire on the 14th & me requiring to stay until the 21st Sept 14 I headed off to Bangkok, Chang Wattana. The following is the paperwork which was required 'on the day' (Tues 2nd Sept):

1: Copy of Passport personal details page.

2: Copy of current Visa exempt stamp.

3: Copy of current departure card.

4: Photo attached to completed TM7 form.

The woman at the outer counter where my 'waiting ticket' was dispensed, was busily texting on her phone so therefore was not very interested at all, however that was probably my fault as it was approx 3pm by the time I was doing this as I got 'navigationally disorientated' however, that's another story.

Once I got to the appropriate counter to submit my paperwork only had about a 20min wait before my number was called, the woman at this counter was very polite, courteous and helpful, I had only requested a 7 day extension however she said that the 30 day ones were 'in' now so she would give me that. Once she confirmed that all the paperwork was OK I left her with the 1900Bht & waited outside, after approx 15mins my passport was given back to me with a 30 day extension on my Visa Exempt, even though I was well ahead of my expiry date, 14th Sept 14, my new depart by date is now 14th Oct 14.
