Advice for colonoscopy Bkk?

Featured Replies

Not so bothered about the Hospital or price, the Dr doing the procedure is far more important IMO. I'd like a western trained Dr in Bkk. Need to have another as sister and mother died around my age of Colon cancer. Any recommendations and approx price advice?

Given your high risk family history I suggest you consult Dr. Chucheep Sahakitrungruang. He is a Professor at a major medical school (Chula) and trained and practiced in the US (Cleveland clinic). He is excellent.

He can be seen at Chula throguh their after hours clinic (but there may be a waiting list) or at Bumrungrad Hospital Tuesdays 3-5 PM or at Bangkok Christian Hospital Mondays 1 - 2 PM.

Costs will depend on hospital - Chula will cost the least (probably under 10K) and Bumrungrad the most (about 22-25K), Bkk Chrisitan somewhere in between, probably around 15K. In all cases costs will be more if there are lesions that require biopsy.

Thanks for this info Shryl, have you heard of Prof Varocha Mahachai at Bangkok hospital? she trained in the US and Canada somebody said she was good. I will see one of these for sure. is Chula a hospital?

Yes, Dr. Varocha is also quite good (in fact I used her for my own routine colonoscopy) but while a GI specialist she is not specifically a colorectal specialist, nor is she a surgeon. In your specific case, given high risk factors, I think you would do best to consult a colorectal surgeon and Dr. Chucheep is the best one I know of in Thailand.

Chula = Chulalongkorn, it is a major university and has a major teaching hospital associated with it. It's a public hospital but has an "after hours" semi-private clinic from 4 PM wherein you can see a specific doctor on a private basis. Tends to have long waits for appointment though...and you can't make the appointment other than by going down there in person. Hence unless you have more time than money and a high tolerance for delays etc it is often worth it to see docs on the Chula faculty at a private hospital.

Whats the prep that you used? Were you cleaned out satisfactorily?
