Untouched Beaches near Kanchanaburi

Interesting article on the reach of Thai Tourist Development into Tanintharyi, Some of the Best Beaches on the Thai peninsula are accessable just 200 km from Kanchanaburi through the Phu Nam Ron border pass. Kanchanaburi could get a big boost in tourist in the years to come as this becomes more famous.

Basically the Beaches there are completely empty, like Phuket 30 years ago. The Mid Miscos islands are amazing!

Shame that the current Myanmar head of immigration at that border point has made it very difficult for Westerners to use that border.

They had good 3 day, 2 night packages for 14k baht, with minivan from the border to the beach resort a few months ago.

Is 120 miles from Kanchanaburi really near?

I read the topic title and thought that the OP had visited Tha Lo facepalm.gif

Hope to get to Dawei one day soon before the crowds.

Who are they??? Where can you book such packages into Myanmar? Why is it difficult for Farangs to cross? Can you cross or no?

When the border 1st opened you could get a 7 day pass at the border to travel into Myanmar, this has now ceased. Yes you can still cross, but you have to get a Myanmar visa in advance from Bangkok. This applies to turnaround visa run day trippers too. So this border crossing has become less popular with Westerners.

Thanks for the info. Boycie.

I was puzzled when I saw the title of the topic. I've never been to Kanchanaburi and plan to go soon to see things like the war cemeteries, the railway, the waterfalls etc. but I can't say that the thought of an empty beach 200 KM away would tempt me. If I want to go to the beach then I'll head to the coast.

Thanks for sharing. I've been to Kanchanaburi a last year (stayed at Kasem) and the idea of visiting an unspoilt place like that looks like an amazing experience. Just hoping that the Myanmar immigration won't give us headaches prior to our "relaxation" at that place. Oh, and hope that the place is safe too. Thanks for that info Boycie.

^ It will take you about a full day of travel to get there from Kanchanaburi.

If you have a Visa in your passport already.

Going a bit South of Hua Hin would probably be better travel wise.

He hasn't - you just need to get a visa in advance just like at the other borders. Getting a Myanmar visa requires no other qualifications other than filling out a simple form, paying the fee, supplying a photo and your passport, that's it.

Incorrect.

You don't need to have a Burmese visa to enter at Mae Sot or Mae Sai.

You also cannot get a visa at this crossing, like your post implies, it needs to be done through a Burmese embassy.
