Abhisit: Democrat party will not field Alongkorn Polabutr in the next election

BANGKOK: -- Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva indicated today that the party would not field deputy party leader Mr Alongkorn Polabutr in the next election following the latter’s decision to apply for a seat in the National Reform Council.

He said that Mr Alongkorn’s application for a membership of the NRC on behalf of the Foundation of Alternative Energy Institute was the latter’s person right and it had nothing to do with the party.

The party does not forbid any member to apply for membership of the NRC but has stated clearly that it deserves the right to field any party member in the next election because it is concerned with the problem of conflict of interests, said Mr Abhisit.

The Democrat party leader said he had made clear earlier that he disagreed with any Democrat party member joining the NRC because the reform process is not the business of politicians who should just provide information to the NRC when requested.

Why this talk about political parties?

Hasn't Gen. Prayuth made it clear that political parties are the cause for division and conflict among the Thai people, not to be tolerated, and politicians banned from government? Gen. Prayuth has proposed that People can be themselves without political labels to run for public office. I think Gen. Prayuth needs to invite Abhisit to an army base for a little "reconciliation." It may be more important to know what military officers are in Prayuth's Chain of Command to succeed current government members.
