How many times over the last 3 or 4 years has Thai Visa news posted an item about and Iranian being arrested at the airport for smuggling narcotics...not one on the list.

Also of note; Aren't Japanese the largest resident foreigner nationality in Thailand?? Non on the list, Indians as well though the Indian "Mafias" have a strong presence.

N

No Russians either.

I've long suspected that Thailand has "back door" prisoner exchanges with certain countries; Iran being one of them.

Of the 149 from Europe I bet 130 of them are Brits smile.png

If 130 of the 149 Europeans were British, the Untied Kingdom would be 6th after China on the list provided by otherstuff1957's in his post #5, try engaging your brain a bit before opening that fat mouth of yours

So, how many foreigners are actually in Thai prisons and what countries do they come from?

I couldn't find any current numbers, but here are some statistics from 2009:

TOP 10 OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN THAI PRISONS (2009)

1. Myanmar (3,787)

2. Lao (1,994)

3. Cambodia (1,445)

4. Malaysia (325)

5. China (252)

6. Singapore (115)

7. Nigeria (94)

8. Taiwan (91)

9. Vietnam (85)

10. Ghana (65)

Not many "Farangs" listed there. Here are the figures for the Farang Prisoners:

Europe: 149

USA: 47

Australia: 15

Sixteen Thousand foreign inmates seems a high number of people , although adds up to what I have thought for long time , lots come to Thailand to carry out activities they wouldn't dare do back in their home country for one reason or another, especially the sex trade side, they abuse Thailand's hospitality , thinking that because I am not at home I can do what I like, you can till like at home you get caught.bah.gif

97% of the foreigners being Lao, Cambodian or Burmese.... with little doubt.

Actually 127 Brits, do the mathfacepalm.gif

nine Swedes, four Danes, three Icelanders, three Norwegians and two Finns

and one German trying to get them all to march in a straight linelaugh.png

Swedes, Norwegians & Finns are NOT Europeans, don't try to be funny when you can't even be smart about it....

the report failed to add - for an amount of money an inmate can easily obtain a phone with full internet access ( when there are serches a appointed gaurd with safegaurd it from those not paid off and return it later.Inmates who have this are advised to use in certain areas so not as to make others "jelous" some lease/rent them out.One west gangsters still runs his coccaine operation quite well via this service ), sex with a 'cute ladyboy", a nice room, favorable visit conditions that allow an inmate to have unobserved sex, favorable rooms, good foods cooked at place very close by,etc, etc, etc .

The thai prison system is a joke and any attmept to make it look accpetable makes me laugh.

after living in los it does not seem unreasonable to come here to engage in criminal activity. quite to the contrary it seems "par for the course" and consistent with many mores of society here.

Europe is a continent not a racial ethnicity. Sweden, Finland and Norway are all countries on the European continent. People from that continent are called Europeans, in the same way people from the continent of Asia are called Asians. Both are made up of many races.

Sweden and Finland are members of the European Union, oil rich Norway isn't.

Don't try and be smart when you can't even be funny ....clap2.gif

I know at least 2 Norwegians in prison for murder so I would not trust that list . Maybe most of the criminals pay their way out of the court and Thailand so they never end up in the statistics.

To be certain i don't want to go to prison. If i did have to go though I'm certain I'd prefer thai prisons over the usa....especially my state of louisiana....A white guy has to be very lucky to complete a prison sentence over there in one piece. Not rascist, just a fact.

Oh yeah, what are your sources of information, please.

This is NOT a fact. It is the opinion of a someone who has no experience and only has movie knowledge I am guessing.

I'm sure the prison visitor was shown what needed to be shown not the ' real ' prison conditions.

More nonsense, the photo in the report is very typical of the communal cells in Bangkok Remand Prison which are cleaned every morning by the prisoners and inspected before they are allowed out for the day. The mattresses shown are exactly what are issued to prisoners.

I really have to question that number of 16,000. here's the data from previous years. I can't believe that the foreign prison population has changed that much in 5 years.

Also, I see the NGO's have got into your head. Notice that only 1.34% of prisoners were there for sex offences?

Im sure youre right...I don't really know I've never been to a thai prison but the ones where I'm from are sub human...it's the other prisoners you have to be wary of.....the gangs run the whole thing...i imagine it's the same here in thailand but the racial issue and inability to move freely inside the prison that make for a living nightmare in the usa...

And you know all this from movies and documentRIES i ASSUME
