Parvo.............. do it myself?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Wife has ew puppy so I want to get him his injections. Can I buy and administer myself? If so where can I buy?

What other injections will he need? He is about 2 months old.

Thanks in advance.

There's a few, Parvo, Distemper, Rabies, Kennel Cough. Better to have the vet do it for around 200 baht a pop, three injections over 3 months, then a booster every year. 600 baht for your pet's health is a small price to pay.

I give my own injections. The 5 in 1 puppy shots (distemper, hepatitis, adenovirus cough (kennel cough), para-influenza, and parvovirus) are 145baht at the feed store and they are required once a month for three months starting at 2 months old with yearly boosters. Rabies should be given at 6 months with yearly boosters. The injections are easy to give as they are administered under the skin.

I guess it depends how far from the vet you live. I give them myself. It is not rocket science.

Thankfully this seems to have answered my question.

We've had several dogs just stop eating and die. I've been in the UK for nearly 15 months and our dog population has gone up a lot. It was 14 but one died the day before I got here. The last time one died like this my wife thought the vet mentioned distemper but to me distemper is just something you vaccinate against so I've no idea what the symptoms are. Looks like this is one of my first jobs along with neutering.

We lost a siberian husky to parvo several years ago, it never made it to 6 months old. Even though it was getting vaccination shots, for some reason parvo wasn't included. i still blame myself for not checking what was being administered. That and the misdiagnosis by another vet.

It is a horrible way for a pet to die. So to that end, i would strongly recommend that the doses are administered by a vet (if you are not experienced) at least for parvo anyway until at least 6 months old and that you keep a personal record (the vet will have the history) of all shots given.
