US singer Simone Battle dies at age 25

Los Angeles - American singer Simone Battle, member of the girl band G.R.L., died at age 25, a spokesman for the Los Angeles coroner confirmed Saturday.

Battle was found dead in her apartment in Los Angeles on Friday, the spokesman told dpa.

The cause of death was under investigation.

"Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing," her management and publishing team said in a statement signed by Reign Deer Entertainment, Robin Antin, Kemosabe Records and RCA records.

The singer became well-known as a finalist on the US television music competition, The X Factor.

She joined the G.R.L. band in 2012. Her song, Vacation, was featured on the soundtrack of the film, The Smurfs 2.

G.R.L. also worked with Pitbulls on the hit single Wild Wild Love.
