Trash Talk. Sloth gets my vote.

Featured Replies

Talk about Thais and trash has featured prominently in a few recent threads. Most notably in the Phuket forum. I have just moved into a new skyhouse in Patong and thought I would share this little trashy anectdote.

My new apartment is on the eight floor and at ground level under my rear balcony there is a large car park that services an adjoining lowrise Thai housing block.

Last night six or seven Thai lads were having a tailgate party in a pick up truck owned by one of the participants. It was the usual harmless stuff, music played too loud from the truck stereo, lots of whiskey with soda, and deep fried psuedo meats on a stick.

I am at a loss as to why Thais are so bad at managing their trash. I guess the answer lies somewhere upon a continuum spanning between lack of education and sloth.

But of some interest was that, this morning when I peered off my back balcony, I saw that the party goers had all abandoned the empty bottles, plastic bags, and other trash in the back of the pick up; despite there being a highly visible bank of 12 garbage bins within a few steps of where the truck was parked.

Sloth gets my vote.

I know when I'm drunk or wake up with a hangover, my first instinct is to clean up.
