Thailand voted one of the best destinations for retirees

....and don't forget to mention, costas2008, the fact that you have to renew your visa every year, you have no right to buy a house or land, you may not work and finally, it isn't the cheap place to live that it was 20 or even 10 years ago, Yes, it's a good place to retire to - or I wouldn't still be here - but don't let anyone tell you that it's a farang friendly country and that their immigration regulations encourage us to stay.

Spot on Hornell.

I do understand why Thailand is one of the most welcome countries for retirees.

They only ask me to have 800K Baht in my account that I can't touch and present myself every 90 days to the immigration office.

What else could I ask for?

Who says you can't touch the 800K. As long as it's in place before you apply for your visa you can do whatever you want with it for the rest of the year. And if you can prove income of 65,000 per month you don't need 800K at all.

If Thailand could match Malaysia's tax free car and used goods import, that would be great.

Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said that Thailand:

"has long been a popular destination for retirees, thanks to advantageous exchange rates that ensure pensions and savings have always gone a lot further here than in more expensive nations".

Really....?!

well I'm pretty sure I recall getting 76 baht to the Pound when I came here 11 years ago, but now it's 52:1. Has someone been ripping me off all these years...?!

Let's also not forget that it went as low as 45:1 at one point...!

Is this a joke?

Every 90 days you report for a continuance, you must leave 800K in the bank, you can't own property, you have no rights, you have no legal system, corruption is rife, the [police are worse than the criminals, the courts laugh at you, you are despised, you are merely there, not to enjoy the Autumn of your years, but as a cash cow and potential scam victim.

Remember the vast majority of retirees cash flows one way....into Thailand.

Rubbish article.

Wow!! TAT is really getting desperate. It must have taken them countless man hours online surfing to find the article from an obscure abd insignificant news source called the Huffington post.

Then they call it popular and turn the small article into a sales pitch about retiring here. 1 paragraph stating they made top 7 list of destinations and the rest about requirements to retire here.

he forgot to mention the 90 day reporting, the yearly renewal of the "retirement" visa" the different opinions every immigration office has! I don't think any other country requires you to renew tour "RETIREMENT" visa yearly!

They don't mention viagra and relatively cheap pooosssy, but u don't expect Thai officialdom to be in touch with reality.

In fact, pooossy must be a huge contributor to Thailand's economy.

It has been said that if Thailand didn't have poooosssy it wouldn't have an international airport

Thainess prevails

"It has been said that if Thailand didn't have poooosssy it wouldn't have an international airport"

laugh.png you crack me up

So lets be honest, 99 % of the retiree are here because of the cheap thai girl/boy, otherwise they would be at home, with their friends and family

Don't tar us all with your brush

They should not be worried about the retired expats. This morning at our laywer the lady told us that 4 expats came in today to start the process of closing companies. She also said that they are now closing down more companies than what they are starting for expats. According to her they all sold their assets already and are leaving the country. I don't know what type of companies they had, real or fake, but still it will represent capital outflows.

Most expats who are leaving the country, think they have to, why, think about it.

I suddenly felt grey and old looking at promotional photograph. Anyway, you are only as young, as the young girl you are feeling........

what a tasteless thing to say.....how old is the girl you are "feeling" - what's the look on her face?

if you are "old" get used to it!
