Fence fillers
May I suggest a mix of local wild flowers and hardy bushes like Bougainvillea. It is drought resistant and a pollinator plant which will help the intended garden. Pollinating insects are an important part of a productive garden and help sustain the local environment. -

Thailand Cambodia armed conflict -- where do western expats fit in this mess?
Is there really much exposure to "foreign residents" in the conflict zone? Perhaps a handful of them. Obviously, unfortunate, and unwanted, but this conflict won't impact the foreign resident community as long as its stays on the border. It's not as if Cambodia will be bombing Pattaya. Maybe the southern insurgents will use this as an opportunity to be more active. -

Re-entry permit: what's the logic behind it?
You don't receive any further permission of stay, just permission of stay up until the expiry date of the extension. At a quick glance, the entry clearance Immigration officer can ascertain the period he should stamp you in for from the re-entry permit. Not without a re-entry permit.... If you are on (for example) a Non-Immigrant Type O (based on marriage) thats valid for another 10 months, and you want to nip out of the country... IF you do not get a re-entry permit, your 'permissions' end when you leave.... If you get a single re-entry permit, you have permission to re-enter under the same permit and stay for that 10 months. If you get a multiple re-entry permit, you can come and go for the full 10 months. ... And, even without a re-entry permit, at a quick glance, the entry clearance Immigration officer can ascertain the period he should stamp you in for from the original extension of stay anyway. The re-entry permit itself is rather moot and pointless...
