Do I have to Declare items at the Land Border Crossing?

Featured Replies

Do the land border patrol check inside bags? Do they have sniffer dogs for foods etc?

I do long distance driving and need food supply, if I accidentally forget to declare some fruits or foods, will they fine me or jail me?

Things that are prohibited are plants (dead or alive), meat, vegetables, fruit, tea & coffee, cereal, wood, seeds, animals, insects, milk, fat, some chemicals, fireworks and pornography.

I seriously don't want to have to throw my entire fortnightly shop away just because I have to go through customs every month or so, its a waste of money. Does anybody have any experiences?

Some items will incur duty, especially alcohol and cigarettes in excess of duty free limits.

Not sure where you would be going however where you'd need to take your weekly shop over land border crossing into Thailand.

Having said that, Laos residents in Vientiane are known to head south to udon to shop, but they would be declaring their stuff to Lao customs and not Thai customs.

Mainly Malaysia & Cambodia, not just entry but exit too. I want to take fruit, veg, herbs, milk and electronics.

Are they forced to declare via baggage search or is it generally free to take supplies with you?
