Motorbike Parking at Mukdahan?

I'm thinking of riding my bike up to Mukdahan (visa run Savananaket).

Does anyone know of anywhere I could safely park/store it for 2 nights?

Hi - I don't know about Mukdahan; but twice when traveling and wanting to leave the bike a few nights - we have found a motorbike dealer - secure premises for bike/helmets - offered 100 baht and no problem with that, just wheeled it in to back of workshop area.

Or you could always put it in for an oil change and say you can't collect it for 2 days!

If you are up for a nice place on the river, maybe you could stay here for a night? I'm sure the Aussie owner wouldn't mind keeping your bike.

LOL. No, not cheap, but a wonderful place to stay. Huge rooms with large jacuzzi tubs. Views of the river. And great food and drinks!

It's totally save to park your bike at the border at Mukdahan, just go to big covered carpark on the left side they will show were you can park your bike, next to a office and a small bank office is a bike parking guarded 24 hours, I once left my KLX there for 2 nights without worry, even left my bike gear ( in a plastic bag strapped with bungee cords on the back of the bike) Forgot the price though mayby 100 baht a day??

But why not take your bike into Laos? only need to take the green book ( in your name) and fill in some forms and your good to go.

I live in Mukdahan, what you say is true, you can not take your bike to Lao...leave it at the car park.

During my trip last May I entered Laos riding over the friendship bridge in Nong Khai, and returned to Thailand riding over the friendship bridge at Mukdahan. About entering Laos over the bridge at Mukdahan there are various reports, it seems like it's "the mood of the day" if the border officials let you ride over it. Some needed a paid escort. Or ask a somebody (for a few hundred baht) if he can load the bike on a pick up and drive it over.

I think if there to easy letting bikes over, the bridge will be packed with locals doing there shopping (or gamble) trip.

I've read bikes can enter Thailand via the two Friendship bridges...but not leave. But there are 2 or 3 other Thai/Lao crossings where it's no problem either way.... but very far from a Thai Consulate. Not worth the hassle. The Thai Consulate in Savananaket is only a short tuk tuk ride from the border. For this trip I'll use the car park.
