What Are My Options for Short-term Home Internet?

Featured Replies

What are my options for short-term home Internet? So far, True and TOT have both informed me the minimum contract is 12 months. But I don't play on being in Thailand for more than six month. Eight or nine at the most. Someone suggested an aircard, but that doesn't seem like it'd be fast enough. I'm a light to moderate internet user, but like to stream and download on occasion.

Aircard is good enough for moderate use, but as soon as you start streaming and torrenting, the aircard balance (5 Gb) is gone.

I would take the plunge and get the year ADSL in, it will be cheaper in the long run as it's

a- Unlimited (I'm currently at 110 Gb approx per month)

b- relatively cheap (670 THB P/m for 10Mb/512)

In comparison, if I would use an aircard and use 110 GB per month I would have to pay (prices are approx)

110Gb / 5 Gb = 22

22 * 599 THB (price for 5 Gb 3g) = 13.178,- per month.

So you do the math and decide what it is cheaper in the long run

Good Luck

Ps: Please note: Prices are approx and could be out of date, but another member will be a long shortly and happy to correct these prices thumbsup.gif

Add Info:

I just checked and yesterday, only light browsing (TV Mostly) and watching Tv via the Internet, I used 2,4 Gb of data.

If you want fast internet, AIS or True offers 750Mb, 1gb 2gb 3gb to 12gb prepaid. After unlimited but slow.

check their packages on their websites.

dtac has aircard packages also. add on's of 12GB for 800b (with phone or something) - or a straight aircard 7GB 999b 150 per 1GB topping so around 2000b will get you 20GB of up to 42mbps and mine has worked vary well.

Just sign up for a TOT/True/3BB package. Don't worry, as soon as you leave and stop paying the bills that 12 month 'contract' will be a thing of the past.

If you live in a condo, talk to your neighbor and offer to pay 50% of the internet, if they are cool with it they will say ok. If not tell them you will pay 70%, or if you are generous say you will pay 100% of the internet cost.

I know you mention "home", just want to ask again if its a house or condo to see what you options are.

I was looking for a shorter term internet provider but had the same issues. Fortunately I had a couple of neighbours that didn't have their wifi locked down. The signal would go off occasionally but foe the most part it worked great.

Surreptitiously leaching internet from neighbours is not exactly cool and something that many of us would consider a solution.

Maybe there was a reason they left it open.
