Is there still the possibility of an appeal - or does this decision lie within the flawed local legal system?

Perhaps the British Embassy might grow a set and use the on-going Koh Tao case and the PM's miss-steps as a means to request a detailed review of this case.

There is already pressure being exerted via AP's local MP to the UK Foreign Office, that needs to be linked, in some way, to the Koh Tao case to reach the right level.

It should be an easier sell as the accused is a Brit. The only problem being those up the food chain who are obviously happy with the outcome, but, if the PM sees it as a serious PR issue, they may see their protection quickly dissipate. Yes, unlikely to happen, but the window of opportunity is small.

Did Tinsley ever enter any plea?

The unwitnessed attack maybe?

The sparse reporting only suggests that the prosecution had cctv footage to present. Maybe it was inconclusive.

As odious as the alleged perpetrator may be and horrendously, permanently disabled the victim is, the truth is still out there.

  • 1 year later...

A few years ago President Junior Bush signed a law that meant that crimes that are against the USA laws that a USA citizen commits overseas is the same as a crime committed in the USA and they could be prosecuted in the USA. Does the UK have something similar? I feel bad if the Pickles family has to rely on a Thai court for anything. They don't have any concept of justice or hearings, or trials, or evidence, or rebuttals, etc.

after all the work they did getting that guilty verdict I just hope they don't let him out on bail during the appeal process.

He has already tried to change his name and passport details before and guaranteed this kind of guy would never stick around. He would get out of Thailand one way or another if they let him out
