I drive and ride assuming that the people in control of every other vehicle on the road woke up that morning with the sole intention of killing me.

On that premise, driving defensively comes naturally.

Not a bad attitude to have behind the wheel anywhere... But I'm not sure that doing this is quite as effective on the roads in Thailand, and provides as much of a safety margin, as in other places. That's why I never drive in Thailand. Never. Anywhere. Between the way the locals drive, and the way so many tourists drive, it's just a question of when... I guess if you're living in Thailand you don't have much of a choice, but that just makes it another reason to not live in Thailand....
