Just a quick report that I got a non-B Immigrant visa (single entry) today in Kuala Lumpur. I got it with fairly minimal company paperwork and without the WP3 form as well that Penang require from recent reports.

A guy in the queue I was in got a multiple entry as well , not sure on what paperwork he had. KL might be the best option for friendly Non-B's.

Not sure why this city gets such a bad rap. The food is fantastic, streets are clean and modern, people fairly friendly as well. Wish I could stay longer :o

Dear Simmo,

I was planning to go to Penang to get a "3 month validity, single entry non-immigrant visa", and then returning to change it to a retirement visa.

I have not been advised about a WP3 form?

Am I confusing things?

Hope you are keeping well,

All the Best

WP3 is for business type visa. You will not need that for retirement. If you have any problem getting a non immigrant you can get a tourist visa and then change in Thailand at immigration. But best to get the non immigrant if you can.

I just want to ask what were the paperworks that you bring in KL? It would be great if you could give the list of requirements coming directly from the Thai Embassy in KL. I am also planning to get my 2nd Non-immigrant Category B visa in KL or Kota Bahru.

Thanks.

1. Visa application form (obtained from the embassy or consulates-general)

2. Passport, which must be valid for a period of not less than 6 months from the date of anticipated arrival in Thailand

3. 2 photographs (4 by 6 cm in size) taken within the last 6 months: in which you cannot wear a hat or glasses

4. Offer letter from your prospective employer in Thailand (if you are moving to a new company); or, letter from your current employer setting out the reasons why you are moving to work in Thailand, i.e. to do what job

5. Contract of employment from your employer - which must set out what your salary will be and this salary must be more than the minimum set by the Government. Currently the Government sets different monthly minimum salaries for each country, but generally the minimum salary you are allowed to earn is Baht 60,000 per month (US$1,600). In the event that you do not declare this as your minimum salary, your application will likely be refused.

A copy of all of the corporate documents of your employer - including :

- articles of association

- memorandum of association

- list of shareholders

- business registration and licenses

- latest balance sheet of the company - showing profit and loss

- evidence that both income and business tax have been paid (Phor.Ngor.Dor 50 and Phor.Nor.Dor 30 forms) and are up-to-date

- evidence of Value Added Tax registration (Phor.Ngor.Dor 20 form)

- evidence of Alien income tax return (Phor.Ngor.Dor 91)

- details of the nature of the business undertaken

- profile of the company

- a list of the Thai workers currently working for your employer in Thailand

- a list of the foreign workers currently working in Thailand (until recently, it was a requirement that there be a ratio of 4 Thai to each foreigner (4:1) per work permit)

- map of exactly where the business is located.

I find it hard to believe you can not wear glasses in your visa photo. That has never been the case in my experience (but admit have not obtained in the 21st century). The Washington DC web Royal Thai Embassy says this:

Two passport-size photographs (2"x2") (Photostat or Photocopy do not accepted). Photographs must have a light color background with a full- face view of the person without wearing a hat or dark glasses. Photos must be taken within 6 months.

In America when I did some immigration stuff they insisted that the photo showed clearly your left ear (<deleted>?) and you could have no glasses or hats etc.

It is probably something to do with a computer face recognition program.

Not sure where I got the above info from (maybe ThaiVisa?) but it has worked the two times I hvae been to KL for Non B and also for friends that I shared the info with.

The trick is to take at least two inches of paperwork and have every sheet signed by a company director (must be Thai I think).

That is not true of Immigration or visa or passport photos for the USA. They all allow glasses if you normally were them.

There used to be an Immigration requirement for 3/4 photo showing right ear that you may be thinking about, but that has been rescinded for several years. All photos are now full front.

The very detailed US requirements are detailed here

Yeh that was back in 1999. The INS made the Thai Immigration look like saints.

Now they are all under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security I think, God help anyone applying now.
