You will first need to do a self certification of your marriage certificate by way of a statutory declaration at the Oz embassy.

Then have the certification and your marriage certificate translated to Thai. Then have the translations certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the translation service can have this done for you).

Then you go the registrars office at an Amphoe and register your marriage. They will issue a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry. Update you wife's house book and change your wife's name on her ID card to yours if she chooses to do it.

Thanks for the speedy reply ubonjoe.

Do I need to do the self certification in Bangkok or is it possible to do it in Australia?

Where would be a good place to get the translation done? Does it need to be Bangkok.

Our place is Hua Ta Phan, Amnat Charoen but I am in Australia right now. Will be over in the village at the end of october for a month.

You need to do it here. The Amphoe will want to see an embassy stamp.

Not sure where you could get the translation done in Amnat. You could have the translation and certification done at the MFA done by by a service in Bangkok and have them EMS them to you.

That should be OK then seen as we will have to go to Bangkok, do you have any recommendation for translation service to use in Bangkok that will do the MFA lodgment and send to me?
