September 19, 201411 yr I shelled out 300 US$ to subscribe to this magazine last year, and have been getting 30-40% of the magazines. Sometimes a month late bundled with several other late ones. The earliest I ever got it was on a Monday (in the stores on friday). I can read it on my iPad but the whole point of paying $6 per magazine was to have it in print. If I want news content on a screen, there's lots to choose from for free. Anyone else with a better experience? Anyway, if you're thinking of subscribing, be forewarned. There's only so many times you want to have to be talking to customer service.
September 19, 201411 yr Yes, experienced the same earlier this year. During "good" weeks, it would arrive on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. But mostly it wouldn't arrive at all. And I live in downtown Bangkok. A complete joke.
September 19, 201411 yr The Economist has on a couple of occasions printed articles deemed offensive to certain Thai people who should never be offended .The current situation means that anybody distributing a magazine carrying said offensive material can find themselves in court being sentenced to a term in prison. Therefore, your distributors probably like to hold it back for a while until it has passed the censors. Try ordering the Daily Mail instead and see which gets delivered first.
September 19, 201411 yr Author Read it on iPad, save the trees. and kill my eyes? No thanks, I spend waaaay too much time staring at a computer screen already. I've tried other magazine subscriptions on the iPad and I end up not reading them as it's not the same.
September 19, 201411 yr I've had similar problems with my regular deliveries of the Beano. I blame Dennis the Menace.......or Minnie the Minx.
September 20, 201411 yr I have a better experience by downloading the audio version of the Economist every Saturday. It's free, easily edited and I enjoy listening whilst walking the dogs.
September 20, 201411 yr I was a subscriber for fifteen years. I cancelled it 2 years ago, really p*ssed off with their rubbish delivery in Thailand (understandable non-appearance due to controversial articles notwithstanding).
September 20, 201411 yr many subscribers suffer late or missing magazines .you can find them on sale cheap at the weekend market later on, e mags is the only answer to the problem. posties prolly nick a few to resell western mags dont pull their punches and tell it like it is so bound to upset certain people Edited September 20, 201411 yr by 3NUMBAS
September 20, 201411 yr The irony of it- paying $300 to get the Economist delivered to Thailand. It could be worse ,it could be the Guardian
September 20, 201411 yr Kinda guessing your shouting at the wrong guys. Its the postal service not the journals fault for certain. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
September 20, 201411 yr I like the Guardian. UK, USA and Australian editions free on line. You might not agree with their editorial policy, but it's best to have an open mind. Edited September 20, 201411 yr by Toknarok
September 20, 201411 yr Author I've been wondering about why, and as some have mentioned, postal theft for resale at kiosks, etc., struck my mind. What about the Financial Times? I thought about getting that next (used to have daily delivery before moving here and kind of miss it), but will it be the same thing? Or the International New York Times? Anyone here who has those?
September 20, 201411 yr That's a real shame - I've had perhaps 2 missing magazines over the last 18 months on top of the 3 or 4 issues that they did not distribute in Thailand. I reported one of them missing and got a subscription extension. Wouldn't pay $6 for it though, mine works out at $2.38 an issue since I transferred it from delivery in my home country.
September 21, 201411 yr Kinda guessing your shouting at the wrong guys. Its the postal service not the journals fault for certain. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app In Bangkok where I live, the magazine is hand delivered by The Economist's chosen distributor, so it is not Thailand Post's fault. Actually, I begged The Economist to have my magazine delivered by Thailand Post since I have much more confidence in them... Edited September 21, 201411 yr by euroflash
September 21, 201411 yr In contrast, my fortnightly copy of Private Eye has arrived without fail in a timely manner for the last few years - sent by regular airmail.
