Apple apologises for iOS 8 update bug

(BBC) Apple has apologised after an update to its mobile operating system left some owners of its new iPhones unable to make or receive calls.

Users who had installed iOS 8.0.1 on the iPhone 6 models also complained it had caused problems for the handsets' Touch ID fingerprint facility.

The update had been released less than a week after the phones had gone on sale in order to fix other issues.

Apple said it was working on a new version.

"We have a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1," it said.

"Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes.

Description of the workaround here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6487

We have a workaround for you if you have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and you lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. You can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes by following the instructions below. We are also preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it's ready in the next few days.

Follow these steps to reinstall iOS 8.0.

  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.
  3. Back up your iPhone in iTunes on your Mac or PC. iCloud backups won't restore to earlier versions, including iOS 8.0.
  4. Download the file below that corresponds to your device:
  5. Select the file you just downloaded by doing one of these in iTunes:
    • Mac: Press the Option key and click Check for Update.
    • Windows: Press the Shift key and click Check for Update.
  6. Press Update to install iOS 8 on your iPhone.

Perhaps they have a workaround for the iPhone 6 + bending as well.

All phones made of metal will bend, this is law of physics. My samsung galaxy s4 bent as well. There are many phones in the past that have done the same, google this.

Not to the same extend the iPhoney is bending. Google the issue and you will see they have a problem.

"Apple is working on a new version"

I don't get how manufacturers (not just Apple - although they seem to be one of the worst) do this - surely they should be putting new ideas/ products through rigorous tests before putting them on the market? Apple are expensive products, but it would seem not such good quality.
