Graphic images via social media

Over the last 12 months my Thai gf has shown me numerous graphic images shared to her via Facebook friends.

Some of these video's show victims actually dying after accidents and crimes and often show people standing there with cell phones taking pictures, I don't understand why people stand around saying "hold on help is coming" when you can clearly see people choking on their own blood etc. Maybe people are scared/ don't want to get involved or more likely lack first aid skills.

Thankfully I've never seen any such videos on my Facebook feed. I've seen plenty of pics which I wish I hadn't though. There is also a Facebook page I love Thailand cars or something... anyway it's basically videos of road accidents, most are pretty nasty too.

Are they all numb to what we feel when we watch that or is it a religious thing? Ie when we die we get reincarnated ect

Yes they all love to share the suffering.

Don't forget a camera is a new thing to the vast majority of Thai people, like a new invention.

You see the same behavior amongst 20-something Americans and sadly, even some who are older.

The reflex today is to take out the camera rather than provide assistance. After all, it might get you several 1,000 "likes".

I have a mate in the UK who is always watching messed up videos on the internet, when I asked him why he watches such videos he said because things happen in life which people are not prepared for and when something like this happens in-front of me I will be able to deal with it...

Personally after seeing a few messed up videos they do disturb me for a day or so, but then the more you see them the less they affect you. It is like the ISIS videos a few mates have shown me of people getting shot in the head point blank... I guess its disturbing and horrific but then if you do not see it you do not know what goes on, the world full of tragic things like this unfortunately however especially in the UK everything is censored.

I do get you on the Thai groups, alot of my Thai friends also seem to watch bike crashes etc from these groups, best thing is just to refuse to watch them!

What a cop out.... when something like this happens in-front of me I will be able to deal with it... Morbid curiosity in someone elses suffering !!

Anyone who posts this shit and turns up in my news feed gets blocked.

As said by yet another Thai bashing, racist moron.

These days there seems to be no boundaries as to what can be shown in the media.

It has gone to the extremes where anything goes and the worse part is that people are becoming desensitised to it. Other people’s humiliations, misery, sufferings and tragedies are recorded and brought down to the levels as being only of entertainment value for the viewers.

What was considered as deeply disturbing and graphic in the past has become acceptable today, a time where the suffering of others gains little or no sympathies; people have become indifferent to the plights of others. If this is the way the situation is going to progress, than it is going to be a bleak future for all of us.

One of my greatest fears is if someone nearest and dearest or myself became a victim of crime or is involved in an accident, and than suddenly it is discovered that the footage is uploaded online where our suffering becomes of entertainment value for the sickos and those of warped minds who actually enjoy this sort of thing. Imagine if you had a family member or friend that was either raped, murdered, seriously injured or smashed up in an accident and than the whole incident is placed online on some sick or social networking website for all the world to see?

This sort of thing should never be acceptable in a civilised society and yet, these inhuman websites and those that upload to them seem to be given a free hand to show and do exactly what they like without fear of prosecution.

These websites that glorify in suffering, death and gore should be banned and for those involved with these sites, should receive similar punishments, fines and jail sentences as those who delve in online child pornography and other sick stuff.

The photo's of murder victims in the news every day is bad enough. It's amazing here to see people wanting to see these horrible scenes of blood and guts and people dying . Reminds me of the magazine they published of dead people 10 years ago and pictures from the body snatchers that race to crash scenes.
