Are you allowed ONE visa-exempt entry at a land border or NO visa-exempt entries?

Featured Replies

History in current passport is that I arrived in Thailand start May from Cambodia on a two month tourist visa, extended it for one month and then went Laos at the start of August to get another one. I stayed in Laos for 10 days before returning in mid-August.

So I'm currently here on a tourist visa, just got it extended so I have 30 days more.

I'm planning on cycling from Bangkok down to the Malaysian border at Satun (and then on down to Singapore and across Indonesia).

I have some stuff to get sorted in Bangkok with my bike stuff before I go.
My question is, if in the course of heading south (the only part of Thailand I haven't been already) the 30/21 days turns out not to be enough and I wanted another 15, would ONE border run be allowed. I would be looking at either Ranong on the way down (which I gather has been one of the harsher borders) or alternately from somewhere like Krabi getting the bus down to the Malaysian border and then returning by bus to complete that leg by bike.
Staying somewhere like Langkawi for a week before returning would be no problem if that makes a difference, I'd like to see that island anyway.
I don't particularly want to go through getting a third visa somewhere like Penang as I honestly don't want or need any more than 15 days.
My previous passport does have evidence of frequent land and two air visa-exempt entries but they were all over different parts of the country and I've never worked here. My current passport has NO visa-exempt entries, just the two entries on visas, at Aranyaprathet and Nong Khai respectively.
So options I am considering:
- out-in at Ranong (least likely)
- out-in at one of the Malaysian border crossings
- out from Satun to Langkawi by ferry, spend a week cycling around Langkawi and then return to Satun
- out at down to Penang for a third tourist visa
Any advice which of above might be possible in light the current situation appreciated.

You should avoid Ranong. If 7 days instead of 15 is enough, you can get an extension like that.

Other than that anything will work, just show your bike and that you're a roaming toursit.

You can get a visa exempt entry since you are not on one already. If you are from a G7 country you will get 30 days.

As said Ranong is not a good choice.
