thai into laos-no pasport

might be a strage question,but can thai girl go into laos for one day,

only using id..have been told it is possible.

just need a proper answer. (border crossing nong khai )

Found this in a travel forum post if it helps....

"Thais can visit Laos without passport but is time consuming and expensive at border as they have to have picture taken, fill out form and paperwork and pay around 500 baht."
