webfact
AIRPORTAOT cuts budget for Phase 2 of Suvarnabhumi expansionSuchat SritamaThe NationAirports of Thailand has cut the budget for the second phase of the expansion at Suvarnabhumi Airport.BANGKOK: -- After a new feasibility study, AOT adjusted the budget from the initial Bt85 billion to Bt61.6 billion. However, all major aspects of the second phase are retained as planned, and work is expected to start next year. The plan will be proposed to the Transport Ministry for approval on October 28.Prasong Poontaneat, chairman of the board of directors, said AOT planned to spend Bt19 billion for a new runway, Bt11 billion for parking and a tunnel, Bt29 billion for a terminal complex that will also include a car park and monorail system, and Bt2.6 billion for other facilities and infrastructure. He said the new passenger terminal would increase passenger capacity from the originally planned 15 million to 20 million, while other new facilities would increase the airport's overall service competency.AOT does not expect to need to borrow from financial institutions for the Suvarnabhumi expansion next year but may need to do so later,he said.AOT is also expanding Phuket International Airport and renovating Bangkok's other international airport, Don Mueang. The renovation at Don Mueang is nearly complete. This should increase passenger capacity from the current 18 million to 30 million.Prasong said air traffic at its six airports between October 2013 and last month totalled 609,937 flights, up by 9 per cent from a year earlier. Of these flights, 285,145 were domestic and 324,782 international. The total number of passengers in the same 12-month period was 87 million, up by 1.6 per cent. Of that total, 36 million were domestic passenger, representing growth of 14 per cent, and 51 million were international passengers, down by 5.6 per cent. As a result, revenue is expected to drop slightly from last year. The company then will cut staff's annual bonus from 11 months last year to 6.5 months this year.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/AOT-cuts-budget-for-Phase-2-of-Suvarnabhumi-expans-30245623.html-- The Nation 2014-10-
orchidlady
"The company then will cut staff's annual bonus from 11 months last year to 6.5 months this year." Did all staff receive a bonus last year of 90% of their salary or only a few key executives? So this year they will get only a 50% bonus. It would be great if the fight against corruption included disclosure of criteria for earning a bonus in state enterprise organisations.

Ricardo
What did the new feasibility study achieve? ... probably to cut out most of the graft. most some of the graft, surely ? Meanwhile work on the part-built-already third-runway has yet to start, and everything else will also be delayed, thank heavens DMK was there ready to be pressed-back into service ! Now, Get On With It, AOT !
rickirs
AOT adjusted the budget from the initial Bt85 billion to Bt61.6 billion: Bt19 billion for a new runway, Bt11 billion for parking and a tunnel, Bt29 billion for a terminal complex that will also include a car park and monorail system, and Bt2.6 billion for other facilities and infrastructure. HOWEVER, on 2010-08-24 Transport Minister Sophon Saram said the Cabinet approved Bt63 billion (what happened to Bt1.7 billion?) for the phase II expansion plan for Suvarnabhumi Airport, said on Tuesday. The plan covers additional facilities for passenger terminal, ramps for aircraft and related construction. The planned spendings were cut down from Bt77 billion due to the cancellation to build a third runway. Without the runway construct, the expansion could proceed [in 2014] without having to complete the environmental impact assessment. So while the terminal will get “additional facilities,” without a new runway passenger capacity cannot increase. Is AOT using some kind of voodoo math?

JOC
Almost identical thread a couple of weeks ago, where the spending was adjusted from 60 to 40 bn baht! So by raising the ceiling this time around, they will still get more money, than they asked for the first time ?? No wonder, that the fat cats in this country are getting fatter!! hansgruber
If it's so state of the art then why do I still get ferried by bus to the gate? Domestic flights to swampy are the worst. Give me don muang anyday. Sent from my LG-D858
