Are there any non-bus options for getting from Bangkok > Savannakhet

I guess the heading pretty much sums up my question.

Heading from Bangkok to Savannakhet are there any options to get there that don't include a long bus ride?

Check Air Asia and Nok Air for flights to to Mukdahan that are fly/ride service via Nakhon Phanom (nearest airport).

Lao Airways fly direct to Savannakhet from BKK but it is costly.

You can travel by train to Ubon and then get a bus to Mukdahan that is about a 3 hour trip.
