7-eleven store locator

Featured Replies

I am looking for a map or list of all 7-eleven stores in Thailand.

Every store has a number and a name, and can be uses as a landmark or meeting point.

Neither googlemaps nor openstreetmap has all 7-eleven stores, 7-eleven website has no store locator, google search in English and Thai gave no results. The problem starts with how to write it, they call themselves 7-eleven or 7-11.

Banks in Germany (where I come from) have an ATM locator that shows ATM near to you, and supermarkets have a list and map of branches, something similar should exist for 7-11 (and similar, like Family Mart).

No need for maps, as there are two on every major street....just about in any town.

I never had a problem finding one.

Most of them are listed by 7 Eleven.

Even if I was blind, I could hear find any 7 Eleven a block away, with that incessant "ding dong" when their door opens and closes every 2 minutes.

Maybe look in some Thai-GPS specific forums or social media; ask a Thai to help or grind through with translate. There are plenty of GPS add-on PoI kits, and I've seen some 7/11's in those. The other challenge is that they are opening probably a dozen new stores each week.

I'd guess that CP (CPall) have details for logistics purposes. In the 2013 CPall Annual Report they said they had 7,429 stores at the end of 2013.

Someone seems to have tried it for Bangkok smile.png

No warranty for accuracy and completeness.

They have a "Location" button on their page (http://www.7eleven.co.th/).

But seemingly dead.

Can you not use the GPS coordinates to identify the correct store and/or send a map link to everyone in your group?

Find nearest 7-11 on OSM

By the way: The so called "service areas" on OSM makes great meeting points. A service area is a gas station with convenience store etc. Typically PTT+7/11+Cafe Amazon.

Find nearest 7-11 on OSM

Finds some 7-Eleven in Khon Kaen city, but none of the four in my area.

So far from complete.

You can add the missing stores to OSM. Better yet would be if 7-11 added their stores them selfs :-)

I've seen a junction with four 7-11s, i.e. one on each corner. I'm personally curious if such a map exists (it should be absolutely blanketed with the pins representing them), but in terms of actual utility, I'm not so sure? I mean, if you want a convenience store it shouldn't be difficult at all to find one (since as you'd mentioned there's also family mart etc)

I'd imagine considering the franchising ops, the 7-11 HQ itself couldn't give you such a map (that said, have you tried contacting them?)

I just tried downloading it to my Garmin but my SD card can't handle the storage space required !

Just kidding.

I thought the OP had to be joking.

If 7-Eleven wanted they could get that data together very fast and with relativly little effort. All they had to do would be to email the manager of every store and tell them to take some pictures of their store with a GPS enabled phone/camera and email the pictures to HQ.

When I'm in Thailand and I need to find a 7-11, I just look out the window. Chances are I'll see one. laugh.png

There is an Android app for 7/11 which includes a map (not a navigable map) of 7/11 localities. Driving out of Chonburi it was about 100Km until we found a seven, we had had no breakfast and needed ice, I'm sure that there were sevens all over our route, just not on the main road. I got rid of the app however as I had to wade through special offers, news about stamps etc, all in Thai, before I got to the map which I then had to locate myself on.

There is also the option on my Android to show atms, filling stations etc. Not all are shown. I am happy that I never got around to buying a GPS.

Let's get back to the OP. If you want to make an appointment with a friend to meet you at a particular 7-eleven, it won't help you tell him to look out of the window. Because there are so many of these shops, every few hundred metres, sometimes one on the opposite side of the street of another 7-eleven, it would certainly be useful to be able to see all of them listed on Google Maps, for example, then click on the shop where you want to make the appointment, copy the GPS coordinates and email them to your friend.

How does a shop, how do all shops of a chain of shops, get listed on Google Maps or as POIs on any GPS navigation map? This is the question, I believe.

Until a few years ago, Google Maps showed Tele Atlas as a reference at the bottom right of the screen. Today, I understand, Google uses its own sources. GPS navigation maps presumably still rely on third-party sources. What are these sources? Ask any of them and they won't tell you. From unnamed sources I understand that being in the Yellow Pages and/or in the public directory of an association (hotels, restaurants, etc) helps you getting on a map. With Google Maps, any business can sign up via http://www.google.com/business/. How long it takes after signing up for your business to appear on the map is a big secret. I gather that it is controlled by a complicated algorithm so complex that no individual Googler (Google software engineer) is privy to it. Ask a Googler and it is very much like that joke about a spy saying "if I tell you, I will have to kill you". Looking at it logically, it cannot be dissimilar to what is generally called SEO (search engine optimisation). Your business appears on the map faster if your own site has a high ranking, if many other sites link to your site and if these other sites have a high ranking, if many searches are made for your business, etc.

What 7-eleven and any other chain of stores should do, for a start, is the following:

  1. Have a well-designed website
  2. Get all stores listed in the Yellow Pages
  3. Sign up (free) on Google Maps and list all stores

The sad fact is that not enough businesses in Thailand bother to do that. I see most hotels listed, many restaurants, but few other businesses. With the increasing use of mobile devices, I believe it would be a great advantage if one could just tap on a business on the map and get navigation directions to get there.

I have assisted some businesses in Thailand to get on the map, but my resources for that country are limited. In Switzerland, where I currently live, Google has accepted me as a "map maker" for the areas I chose and this allows me to be of more help here.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Just buy a GPS with speednavi. It has them on the map

Thanks to everyone for their help, except those who (deliberately?) misunderstood my original post.

Just noticed a sign on several 7/11 shops that they celebrate the opening of their 8000th shop. So they must have a list of shop numbers, names and locations.

I once had a date at my local 7/11 shop, I even gave my friend the name of my soi in Thai, for a reason still unknown to me he went to a similar area, that had a 7/11 and an area for ball games similar to my area, and after prolonged calling on the phone and walking around I told him the number of the 7/11 branch, which was different from the branch he was at.

I befriended some Cambodian construction workers at their worksite, and they couldn't tell me where they stay after work. A truck picks them up, they know which direction they are going, but nothing more. Number of nearest 7/11 would have helped for after-work socialising.

When I am walking around, there places in populated areas where I can't see any 7/11 or Familiy Mart (their branches have unique numbers and names as well).

For starters, I would like an app that accesses my location (from GPS or WiFi or mobile network) and tells me where the closest 7/11 (or Family Mart) is.

As far as I gather from replies, some apps, websites or devices have some (many? most?) branches in their system, but a complete map with numbers and names is out of question.

That is exactly what m.osmquery.com does. Change "all categories" to "shops" and "all subcategories" to "convenice" and press "search for POIs".

When the page loads it asks your browser/phone for your location and puts a marker there.

1.jpeg

Select "Shops" and "Convenience".

2.jpeg

Press "Search for POIs" and you get a list sorted by distance from the marker.

3.jpeg

Press "Show on OpenStreetMap" and you get a map with that place marked.

Great where is this corner ?

if it is not too far I would love to set up a 360 degree camera there and have it do a "spin"

or maybe google maps already did it :)

I try and tell my buddies at home about 7-11s across the street from each other and get unbelieving stares

this would solve that !

I have some experience with large organizations. Many people who do not ascribe greater competence/awareness to them than I would.

I have no doubt there is a list of the 7-11s and their addresses, management etc available. This would be necessary because otherwise they can't track the money owed (in either direction). What that does not translate, to me, is that there's some kind of pin-up board in 7-11 HQ with the exact locations of every 7-11 they have. At least not a necessarily accurate one. Because this isn't strictly speaking necessary for the HQ from a $ view. If the franchisees suffer because too many 7-11s have opened in too small a location, HQ doesn't need to care because unless actual retail throughput falls with an increase in stores, they make at least the same amount of money, if you go bust its not their problem.

Its entirely likely if you make a request for a GPS map of every store (that they don't ignore), some junior staffer (or even intern?) gets thrown the list of addresses and is told to work it out and have it ready by Monday. Then said junior staffer spends the entire weekend clicking around in google maps. The problem with this is in terms of accuracy. So you get a long list of GPS coordinates in the end. Do you know if its accurate? Do you know how many of them are accurate? Do you know if its complete? It could be off by quite a bit but you'll only find out quite a while later.

All the open crowdsourced mapping databases, you're likewise depending on the diligence and enthusiasm of random people. To a certain extent it's self selecting which is a good sign, but I would not bet money on its completeness and accuracy at least until a lot of time has passed (which introduces additional problems because the number of 7-11s is something of a moving target).

The bad news is this was many years ago when I was new to thailand, I was on a tuk tuk when i saw it (and not to put too fine a point on it, i was slightly drunk), so am unable to give a precise spot. All I can say is this was on Phuket, quite possibly near the touristy spots (I mean, I was heading back to my hotel on tuk tuk from *somewhere*).

I too wish I had a photo.

Sigh now I feel old, so many years have passed.

By chance, found a list with 7/11 stores that have True WiFi hotspot, covers 1035 stores (out of over 8000)
