US Ebola nurse 'to take legal action' over confinement

So there was this doctor in NY who wasn't subjected to confinement (self-confinement doesn't count, especially since it also included jogging in the park and other 'outside' activities) and has now been diagnosed as being infected with Ebola. And god knows who has come in touch with him since he returned from Africa. You are in healthcare and the reason you're in it is to provide... well... healthcare (I hope!)... to people who need it. Thankfully you are not infected but what if you were and you were not confined? It's just like suing the authorities for hauling you in for driving under the influence of alcohol. How selfish of you.

The thing about this nurse is that if you have ever been in a hospital, you know her. Or you have had contract with her. The arrogant, inflexible, know-it-all who ignores every request--because she has more important things to do--or who disregards whatever you might have to say about your own condition. I have seen this nurse in several hospitals. Kaci has attitude. It's there in her body posture, her language, her voice, and her strident demands. And on top of all of that, she is a political activist.

Now this was an excellent observation.

Officials had ordered her to stay in her home, saying they will go to court to force her to stay there. Turnabout is fair play. Should she infect someone up there in Maine, that victim (or their estate...) should certainly have the right to sue HER, on the basis of gross & willful personal negligence and willful disregard for public safety (same as any drunk driver who kills someone; 'can be prosecuted for murder in some states...)

Should anyone ELSE break quarantine citing her case as a precedent, and subsequently infect someone, she (by virtue of her status as a medical professional) should bear some degree of liability for those damages as well.

Gotta' say however, that the Governor of Maine seems to have drawn a red line much like Obama's red line in Syria. She is determined to defy any limits he sets. He was even willing to allow her, in some "negotiation" that was being carried on but has now fallen through, to go out for walks or bike rides as long as she stayed 3ft away from anybody. She refused. The Governor needs to either enforce the limits, or just shut up. Tolerating her defiance is just adding to the wrong message she's already sending.

Odds are no transmission of the disease will come of this. But the damage will already have been done in terms of encouraging and setting the precedent for others to defy quarantine requirements. Very selfish, Very anti-social. Very unprofessional. Very very dangerous. She should lose her certification (or license or whatever) as an RN. I certainly wouldn't go anywhere near, or facilitate anyone in my family foing anywhere near, any hospital, clinic, or doctor's office she was working in - ever.
