webfact
MOTS reveals new tourism strategy, expected to be ready in Feb '15BANGKOK, 28 October 2014 (NNT) — The Minister of Tourism and Sports today revealed the progress of the new tourism strategic planning, expected to be finished in February 2015.Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports today talked about the progress of drafting the new tourism strategic plan to focus on three subjects, namely to raise the national income from tourism, to raise the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio, and to improve tourist security. The tourism strategic plan is now being adjusted to comply with the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB).This adjustment will update related laws in the current environment and will also call for stricter law enforcement in cases of violations. For marine safety, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) has worked with the Ministry of Transport to design a new and more secure life vest. These new life vests are expected to be deployed in pilot tourism areas such as Pattaya and Phuket in November. The MOTS will hold talks with related agencies about a solution to the illegal taxi and rental vehicle services that are fraudulent and overpriced, said the MOTS Minister.-- NNT 2014-10-
HiSoLowSoNoSo
"raise the national income from tourism, to raise the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio" Yeah good luck with that one. This is the lady who suggested electronic tagging of tourists, will they put those tags on the new life west?
NongKhaiKid
Will new life vests stop all the jet ski rip offs that the BIB are part of ? Will they stop overloaded ferries and tourist boats under the control of an unlicensed ' captain ' who may also be high ? As is so often the case here taking the basics is too difficult, steps on too many toes and makes powerful enemies etc so let's announce something flash that sounds good and makes it look as if we are actually doing something.
Popular Post shirtless
I think Thailand has had its tourism boom, and the greed and scams have now finished it

Toknarok
Week after week, month after month we get these announcements from bodies involved in the tourism industry in Thailand. very few make any sense and most are downright ridiculous. Add to that the blatantly false figures usually spouted as to how the figures for tourists are improving, or if the numbers are falling the percentage drop is negligible, one really doesn't know what to believe. The truth is that the Thai tourism industry is hurting, bleeding heavily, but the powers that be cannot, or will not acknowledge the fact. We all know the answers, it's ACTION that is required not a lot of hot air and promises that will never eventuate.
CTO
Sitting at the airport as I type this, Check in counters for Thai and many other airlines - nearly empty Passport stamp out - 2 people in queue in front of me. I've seen tourists go away before for a short time (no pun intended) stay is better perhaps, SARS/previous coup etc. This time they seem to be staying away for a long time, far longer than I've ever seen a downturn before
madmitch
So, a new life vest is being designed by those experts in marine safety the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Transport. I'm sure that the designs that have been used around the world for many years would be perfectly adequate if their use was actually enforced.
DLock
Dear Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, you do understand the difference between "objectives" and a "plan" right? "Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports today talked about the progress of drafting the new tourism strategic plan to focus on three subjects, namely to raise the national income from tourism, to raise the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio, and to improve tourist security." See, these are objectives, or hopefully, the measurable results of the plan that you intend to put in place. You also understand the concept of "timing"? You plan for 2015 will be complete in February 2015? Most plans are complete well in advance of 2015 so that they can be implemented in 2015. You may want to skip 2015 and move straight on to 2016 high season. A new life vest? Really? This is the best "teaser" you could come up with? Perhaps fixing the problems of why ferrys keep capsizing and boats keep crashing might be helpful. This is called "cause" and "effect". Rather than try and sole the "effect"...why not fix the "cause". Maybe its just me. You are far beyond you level of competence. Fail.
Mister Fixit
'and to improve tourist security.' Yeah, should have thought of that a long, long time ago. There might be many people still alive if they had ... Edited October 28, 2014 by Mister Fixit
