Timing for application for new tourist visa

My 60 day tourist visa plus 30 day extension expires soon. How soon before the expiry date can I make an application for a new one. Going to Savannakhet to do this.

Whenever you want to. There is no limit on how early you can do it.

When you return to Thailand using your new tourist visa you would start a new 60 day permission to stay from that point. It's not added onto your current permission to stay, so if you get the new visa when you still have 15 days left on your 30 day extension, you'll lose those 15 days .

Getting a re-entry permit to keep your 30 day extension alive would be a waste of money and time since it would cost Baht 1000 and you'd still need to do a border run to activate the new tourist visa entry.

Better to wait until your current 30 day extension is about to expire if you want to get the maximum total days in Thailand.
