Chiang Mai is now just two and a bit hours from Phuket.

PHUKET: Bangkok Airways has launched four new direct routes connecting with Chiang Mai, one of them direct with Phuket.

Starting from Sunday (October 26) the airline is also now flying from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani in Isan, and Mandalay and Yangon in Myanmar.

Ariya Prasarttong-Osoth, the airline’s Vice President for Sales, explained that the decision to launch the new routes was made because Chiang Mai is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Thailand, attracting a large number of both Thai and foreign tourists, and is also a major commercial city in the North and a gateway to Indochina.

“We considered the potential for passenger volume when the Asean Economic Community (AEC) comes into being [at the end of 2015],” she said. “All flights are direct – they do not stop in Bangkok.”

The Chiang Mai-Phuket service is once daily, using an Airbus A320 aircraft with 162 seats. It leaves Phuket for Chiang Mai at 11:30am, landing at 1:40pm, then departs from Chiang Mai for Phuket at 2:20pm, landing at 4:25pm.

“The airline is currently offering special web promotion fares on these four new routes. Chiang Mai-Phuket, one way, starts from just B2,290,” Ms Ariya noted.
