Guys,

In about two weeks I am going to make a 3 to 4 day ride from Bangkok to Surat Thani via Chumpon, Phang Nga & Krabi.

As I have never riden along these roads before, does anyone have any suggestions on good roads (sealed roads) to take along the way? Any suggestions of roads or anything else to steer clear of?

if Surat Thani is not a must for you, just try this less traveled route instead of the boring highway. After Samut Songkram, instead of going from highway, you can take the smaller and nice coastal road until Hua Hin

Instead of going Surat Thani via Chumporn you can try the Road from Chumporn to Ranong which is curvy and great with good scenery. and from there to Phang Na and then Krabi all the way down which is also a cool curvy road again with nice scenery and places to relax and eat and stay.

you can visit Surat Thani while returning back if needed.

you can actually pass the highway all the way down to Chumporn - Ranong Road intersection through two national parks and various places to see. great food and lodging too.

But that will take longer still great route it is.

Please check. it is not super complete until Chumporn but i am sure you can get the idea and complete it yourself.

There is a nice road that links Surat to the west coast to Khao Lak then to Phang-na, the 401 .. It may fit on your return route to Surat.

Thanks I will add it in.

It will be my last ride in Thailand before shipping my bike home so keen to make it a good one.

For a great bike road, continue south on the highway past Chumpohon, to route 4139. Right turn at a small intersection. Small road that doesn't seem to go anywhere at first, but then goes right over the crest of the mountains and connects to Petchkasem Road to Ranong at the village of La-Un. It's spectacular, virtually made for a bike and has almost no traffic. Includes a view of a natural arch, the only one I've seen in Thailand. You can look right through the mountain.

Get a good print map. Google Maps in Thailand is very out of date. Even with printed map, it may appear that the road does not connect across the mountains. But it does, and is very well paved and well engineered. There's one point on the road where you bear left onto a different route number. Google maps so bad I can't see the road numbers there, but it's hard to miss. Have a great ride.

Just be careful going through Hua Hin if your Cycle is a nice one the knuckleheads there might either try to cause accident and blame on you or rip it off it happened to find of mine he had a Thai run in to him there. Oh keep noise down as your pass the Palace too. Enjoy the ride be safe.

Hell I thought you were talking about a bike .. not a cycle ..

Is that 3-4 days return from Bangkok ? It would take me 3-4 weeks.
