Somali Pirates Free Seven Hostages More Than 4 Years After Hijacking
BY MIKE SCHULER

SOMALIA: -- The remaining seven Indian crewmembers of the MV Asphalt Venture have been released by Somali pirates more than four years after the cargo ship was hijacked off the coast of Somalia.

The Panama-flagged Asphalt Venture with 15 crewmembers was pirated on September 28, 2010, approximately 100 nautical miles South-East of Dar Es Salaam in the Somali Basin. The vessel along with 8 crewmembers were released following the payment of ransom in April 2011, but pirates kept the seven remaining crew ashore in Somalia.

According to a statement from the Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme, established in 2010 to assist and support victims of maritime piracy and their families, the remaining seven crew were released following a “modest payment” covering the logistical and transport costs of the pirate group holding the men.

Shocking! Their coastal bases should have been flattened by bombing. But you'd get the leftie bleeding hearts crying racism.

Somali Pirates are having a hard time find new staff, recruitment is at an all time low, due to the young Somali males leaving and invading Europe and the U.S.A.

as asylum seekers.

Big money is being made by shipping insurance companies, Pirate cover is a high risk and requires a high premium to purchase cover. Then you have the private security firms, Pirates are good for some businesses.

The Russian Navy have their own way of dealing with pirates, certainly no political correctness for them. Here is a video of them in action. I'm sure the message that Russian commandos are definitely not to be messed with is now understood by any pirates out there, and Russian vessels will be given a wide berth!

Dude, seriously? Not everything in life has a dark side ulterior motive. Lloyds has been one if my clients since the 90s and I can assure you they do not like this and they make more when there aren't these issues.

I do love Russia for their in your face screw PC we mess you up don't care what anyone thinks if you mess with us attitude.

The London and European based syndicates which control almost all of the marine insurance market, and the UK/USA based maritime security companies which dominate the market supplying armed guards to ships plying these waters will not allow the piracy to die down. Last reported piracy inncident in the gulf of aden was 2yrs ago and the Somalis are not into it anymore. But still ship owners are forced to buy insurance cover and hire armed guards by these sharks, with govt backing.

I sure hope a 'gift' of a cell phone was included in the ransom paid. Would be a beacon for some GPS guided missile.

I said it was one of the rare occasions when "Bravo!" is due to Russians.

Don't think they had bombs during the Middle Ages, Mr Templar. rolleyes.gif

Do you believe everything you read on an internet forum? The video if you follow the links, does not show any of this. We don't see people being tied up and we don't see boats set alight with people on them. Instead we see people being interrogated about their nationality.

There is no oil in Somalia so not worth sending troops to kill those mad dogs

Oh, let's match someone's avatar to the info in their posts. Makes sense!
