Rinrada
Only thing I have never found for sale anywhere in LOS is OXO cubes.Robinsons -Tesco etc all do the other ones with the little chicken on them (maggi) but can you get OXO cubes anywhere or ever Bovril for that matter. Other things the wife tends to bring out are Snickers (not..) and McCoys crisps.Re: Cheese I find that the small supermarket opp.Empor.on soi 33 has some decent examples. I knew a guy who has a small holding up in Udon somewhere and makes Buffalo cheese but no local market... Thai wont eat...kin edam. ::
anya
thanks for that boys! lucky out of all listed I only like cheese, love cheese really... usually get it from France or little french markets in Surrey. is there any limit or conditions on bringing cheese into Thailand? for me it is like, I suppose Indian Curry for my boyfriend, sometimes just MUST eat it.. also, what is the situation with wine and is Shampagne available? by the way today here (in London) is 25 C but on Saturday will be only 10C, can not wait to get to see some sun!
p1p
Much depends on where you will be living. Bangkok, Chiangmai, Phuket, Pattaya etc are all expat strongholds and almost everything is available there. Upcountry from these places is much more difficult. Wines & Champagnes can be found, (for a hefty price!) There are many Indian restaurants but few compare in quality to those in London. Stock cubes only tend to be available in Pork or Chicken varieties if you use others bring them with you. Many types of cheeses are also available from specialist shops but they also tend to be pricey. If you have any particular favourite foodstuffs, by all means bring them with you but you may well find them available here. I personally feel that luggage space is better filled with silly things like English "Monopoly", "Scrabble" or other board games, if you like them, or DVDs of favourite TV series etc. because these things can not be found and you might tend to miss them after a while. If you are going to be living in Chiang Mai drop me an email and I shall try to give you some more specific advice. Good Luck.

Large container will cost 200 Baht, they also make beef demiglas mix, execelent for sauces same price. I think its only available at catering supply outlets?? Acutually most things are there if you just look, ask Thai people in the business.

Rinrada
The last time I actually found some OXO cubes (red ones)was in a small supermarket near where I used to work in Catt Lihn St in Hanoi N.Vietnam in about 1997.Even then they were about a year out of date but tasted OK.(little bit saw-dusty)I have never come across them in Philli,Laos,Kumpucha or LOS. Maggi and Knorr are fine but the IN word is aaaaaa-aa OXO (or is it bisto)..Mai Pen.. Find the Cube.

jayenram
Of the expats here in Surin, quite a few spend time in UK/Europe a couple of times a year. They are usually kind enough to bring back light/non bulky items if requested. My regular requirement requests include OXO, dried marrowfat peas (for proper mushy peas), certain Indian whole spices (for my curry nights) which you cannot get here (I was suprised I couldn't get black cardomoms even in Malaysia), suet and good quality cue chalk. Regarding what I miss in UK; my 2 children and my old friends. And a large portion of good Yorkshire fish and chips wouldn't go amiss. Regarding what I don't miss; income tax, snow, over priced petrol and beer; and w*rk, of course.
pidster
If you are looking for cheese villa has a small selection (Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 or Soi 49) another alternative for a great selection of Australian cheeses and other Australian fare is Food Glorious Food on Sukhumvit Soi 71 (close to sub-soi 37). Boo
Anya, If you dye your hair any colour lighter than dark brown, may I suggest you bring a supply of your own hair dye with you as the concept of not being a natural blonde/ red head etc is alien to the thai supermarket suppliers! Also bisto gravy granules, if you are planning on cooking real roasts, applicator tampax (sorry boys) as you cannot get them here anywhere, a couple of your own fitted bedsheets & a top sheet for sleeping, as most available in Thailand are polyester mix, very itchy in this heat & several of your own makeup foundations (if you wear it) as you can only get No7 & maybelline if your lucky enough to live near a Boots the chemists. Hope this is pratical for you, I find everytime I go home I have a list including all of these things (specially the Tampax & hair dye) from my farang girls living here in Samui. MaiChai
Regular income from a decent paid job. Being treated equally; what I mean by this is no one gives a monkey where you come from in the UK, everyone gets treated equal. In TL if you're not Thai, doing anything is a great hassle (no ID card/not on a tabien baan). Decent bread without loads of sugar in it (I know its called kanum bang, but honestly its not a type of cake so you don't need to put sugar in it!!!). Other than that, not much else!
