Australia-Thailand to cooperate in crime prevention and suppression

BANGKOK: -- Thailand and Australia have signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and suppression.

The pact on mutual assistance in criminal issues was signed this week by Thai Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon and his Australian counterpart Alexander Downer on the sideline of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), held in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

Under the agreement, Bangkok and Canberra will assist each other in the investigation and prosecution of serious crimes, including terrorism, drug and human trafficking, fraud and money laundering, according to a news report of Vietnam News Agency (VNA), disseminated to TNA Friday night.

The bilateral pact will also allow law enforcement agencies of both countries to effectively obtain information and evidence needed for the investigation and prosecution of the serious crimes.
