Rehoming abandoned cats

Featured Replies

Recently some abandoned cats have made their home at my house. This would not be a massive problem but I am often out of the country for extended periods of time. I am concerned that if they roam about a soi dog will get the better of them. They were clearly pets once and are lovely, affectionate little critters. Is there a place I can take them that would be safer and more permanent?

the problem is not the dogs but your neighbours putting out baits. the cats are very capable of looking after themselves so I would not worry about it

The over half suggests the temple, good idea? While I don't want to bash temples, they do a lot for the community; I do wonder if they are equipped to deal with animals.

If you feed cats visiting your home, you will have to adopt them in some way, even if they have owners. Cats are not like dogs. Are not loyal to the owners. They stay where are better treated. In Thailand, dogs do not chase or kill cats. If you adopt cats be sure to fix them (500thb), if not you will have to deal later with its litter 2 times a year, and deal with their lovemaking chanting old night.

Nobody like to adopt soi cats. Many people drop abandoned animal at temples, not because are welcome, just because monks will not kill or hurt them...and will feed them.

If you like animals, adopt a soi dog, and you will gain a nice and loyal friend too. Dogs will take care of your home, and your neighbords will take care of them when you are out your home for few days.

MOVING to pets/vets etc

I would poisen the bloody nuisences that keep coming around our house and ripping open the plastic rubbish bags ,

I'll have one! where abouts are you?

I don't agree that they are not loyal.

Is there someone you can pay to take care of them? Maybe someone from the temple for a donation?

You sound like a truly horrible little man. I hope that I never have the misfortune to meet you or your ilk in real life.

In Thailand, dogs do not chase or kill cats.

That is simply not true.

Some dogs co-exists happily with cats, while others will chase and kill them if they get half a chance. We have eight adopted soi dogs and every one of them will kill a cat if they can catch it, in fact two of them unfortunately killed our neighbours cat the first night after we moved into a new house. The cat (young and inexperienced) jumped into our garden and was cornered and killed by two of our dogs.
