Exchange rates

Featured Replies

What's the best way to get the most out of my baht going back home?

I remember back when don Muang airport had the best rates for money exchange. But now suwannaphumi doesn't compare. I remember my airport back home had outrageous rates.

So what would you say is the best ?

Be sure to accomplish the exchange "in Thailand"; outside Thailand you'll get a lower exchange rate.

You can use this website to compare the Thai bank rates. Since you are selling your baht to buy foreign currency (or maybe think of it the bank is selling your a foreign currency) enter THB in the first field and the currency you are buying in the second field....click the Show Rates Button and look at the Inverse Rate as that will be the TT "Selling" Rate which is the rate Thai bank uses when you are selling your baht to buy foreign currency....or what they charge you to sell you a foreign currency...or said another way how many baht you will have to spend to buy the other currency--a lower number is a better selling rate. You want to use the bank that has the "lowest, repeat, lowest" TT Selling rate. But if you were buying baht instead of selling it you would want the bank with the highest TT "Buying" Rate.

I expect doing the exchange at the airport might get you a worst rate than you could get at the bank since they know the airport exchange is your last chance before leaving the country.

If using the above mentioned website, you should select "notes" and not "TT" if you are selling hard cash !

Good catch...thanks.
