Herd behavior describes how individuals in a group can act collectively without centralised direction. The term can refer to the behavior of animals in herds, packs, bird flocks, fish schools, demonstrations, riots and general strikes, sporting events, religious gatherings, episodes of mob violence and everyday decision-making, judgement and opinion-forming.

Raafat, Chater and Frith proposed an integrated approach to herding, describing two key issues, the mechanisms of transmission of thoughts or behavior between individuals and the patterns of connections between them.They suggested that bringing together diverse theoretical approaches of herding behavior illuminates the applicability of the concept to many domains, ranging from cognitive neuroscience to economics.

This explains the irrational behavior of us - Humans.

Have you found herd behavior to be more prevalent here than in the other countries you've been to?

I think places like Japan and China have populations that are more herdlike.

Humans in general okay maybe. Thailand is behind the times as team players. By team i mean eveyone gets to voice their opinion and contribute. You post this stuff on this site then of course it will apply to Thailand.

Of course herd behavior is very visible in Thailand to the foreign, Western observer, but it is so visible because Westerners are not accustomed to this kind of herd behavior.

I bet Thais coming to Europe or the US would point out other herd behaviors we don't notice ourselves.

Maybe as a Thai looking from the outside into western behavior they might decide to speak out when they would not normally do that when working in Thailand. When in Rome................
