Hello,
I was looking for an up-to-date list of Thailand border crossings that are open to foreigners. I couldn't find one, so I decided to make a list myself. Can you please check it and tell if it's complete or not?
Thanks

Thanks for that.

Is a Burmese visa required for a quick in and out border hop?

Cambodia visa cost USD 30, and there is no exit fee. You're being ripped off because you pay in Thai baht and do not stand your ground.

I am afraid your generousity in trying to help border hoppers find their points have all been in vain having been thwarted by all the add on and corrections offered in all the following posts. As usual Ubonjoe comes through with definitive clarity.

Bump, since I have to leave Thailand by Dec 3rd and was thinking of riding my bike to Phunaron-Htee Kee to do it.

Can I just enter the no man's land and pay a guy to stamp me in/out of Myanmar, then return back into Thailand?

Or do I need to actually get a visa in advance and enter Myanmar?

If I need to actually enter Myanmar I'd rather go to Laos instead.

Might be best if you send a PM to Thai Visa Service, or start a new topic to ask this question - these questions are off topic and will just likely get lost/unseen here.

cheers

Nope, there are at least 8 Thai-Lao border crossings open. The one missing from above is the Nan crossing, located at Chaloem Prakiat district and on the Lao side near Hongsa, popular with motorcyclists. VOA available on the Lao side.

1 more crossing may or may not be an international crossing (but this is disputed by some members): the Golden Triangle crossing at Chiang Saen, mainly for gamblers to go across to the Kings Roman casino in Ton Pheung, Laos. If international visitors are allowed across, then only passengers and no vehicles.

2 more crossings should become international soon, probably within this year: Ban Huak, Phayao province and the long awaited Phu Doo crossing in Uttaradit, near Pak Lay on the Lao side (Saiyabuli province).

As I pointed out in another post to Ubonjoe yesterday, the laos-guide-999.com website is inaccurate and out-of-date. It is missing the latest two Lao-Vietnam crossings open since last year and incorrectly states that one can use a Lao river crossing to go to China when no one has ever been able to do that. It has been possible to travel directly to China from Chiang Saen on Chinese cargo boats at times though. There are only two China-Lao crossings open as international crossings, the latest to be added was just in December 2013, so a lot of travellers don't even know about it and assume there's only one. Soon there will also be an official Lao-Myanmar crossing (probably after May 2015) but up until now there never has been one, despite what some sources might say.

4 Thai-Myanmar crossings opened on Aug 28, 2013 to visa holders of all nationalities. All of these also have temporary arrangements for day trippers or those doing short term excursions near the border, but plan on heading back into Thailand the same way they came. Dan Phu Nam Ron, the newest of these 4 crossings briefly stopped doing day passes but has allowed travellers with visas across ever since the August 2013 opening date. They are now reportedly allowing day passes and therefore Thai visa runs again.

Hello,

Nakaxeng - Kaenthao (Loei province to Sayabouly Province)

How to go there from Vientiane ?

And on the Thai side where is the closest airport ?

Thank you.

The closest airport on the Thai side is Loei, which incidentally also runs a daily Loei-Luang Prabang bus, which passes through the Nakaxeng-Kaenthao crossing every morning; departure time from Loei is around 8am and the border crossing is around 50km north of Loei in Tha Li district.

From Vientiane to that border it's around 200km; I did it once by car, not sure about the availability of public transport but it looks fairly scarce to me, although if you were to find transport to Pak Lay and then from there down to the border it should work. What I did was drive along the banks of the Mekong, with the last 50km of road not even on the map - it was basically a track consisting of mostly gravel or sand so I doubt there'd be any transport along the way, certainly not after the turn-off to Pak Lay, which heads north-west when I just wanted to go west. When I passed through that last section of track only a couple of trucks passed me so if I had become stuck I might have had to spend some time there waiting for help. Luckily, I made it to Kaenthao just after nightfall so all was good and of course I was driving a 4WD and it was early April, so not yet the rainy season.

Well just read that the Phu Doo-Pak Lay crossing is now open. And as the OP correctly stated, the Nan crossing is known as the Huay Kon-Muang Ngern crossing near Hongsa.

Can I use: Nakaxeng - Kaenthao (Sometimes people told: Tha Li - Kaen Thao or Loei - Kaen Thao).

I now this check point don't make visa on arrival.

Posted

The Nakaxeng - Kaenthao crossing does have visas on arrival available. So you can certainly cross there visa exempt..

Thanks for new information.

Previously, it was impossible to get a visa on arrival.
Maybe their time has changed?
Previously, they worked for the passage from 9 am to 6 pm.
