Ubon Hash House Harriers - December Run - Northeast Warin - 3:30pm Saturday 6th December

The next Ubon Hash 'run' will take place on Saturday 6th December and will kick-off from "The Outside Inn", which is on the Eastern edge of central Ubon. Regular Ubon hashers will know this well-feted guest house+bar+Mexican-Thai restaurant, which we have used a couple of times as the meet-up place.

The 'run' (run/walk) itself is located in north-east Warin and transport will be provided from The Outside Inn to the run start (and back again after the run) a couple of clicks away. The run is a nice mix of suburb, fishing village, lakeside and woodland. There will be a beer stop and the usual circle and beers (/softies) at the end of the run. For those who care to stop for a beer or two on return to Outside Inn hash funds may well step up for some free and tasty Mexican snacks/nibbles.

Meet for the run at The Outside Inn 11 Suriyat Road for a 3.30 pm prompt start. Nights draw in quickly in winter so we will start at this earlier time for the next 3 months. It's a good idea to bring along the map (attachment Word document below) to get you to The Outside Inn if you are unfamiliar - or see their website, http://www.theoutsideinnubon.com. Alternatively here are their direction instructions (slightly tweaked by me):

One of the easiest ways to get here is by Sapphasit Rd, the road that starts at Central Mall on the west side of town and runs east through town, passing by the police station and the large public hospital. Proceeding eastwards, one kilometer past the hospital main entrance, Sapphasit Rd ends directly in front of the entrance to Wat Si Pradu. At that ‘T’ junction, turn left. Go 100 meters to a 4-way intersection and turn right. The Outside Inn is ahead on the right, 100 meters from the intersection.

There will also be a pickup from N-joy Bar at the far western end of Phalochai Road at 3pm.

The next few months generally provide very comfortable running conditions with the cooler weather. Don't miss out on another good Ubon Hash run!

Hashing is social 'running' and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken too seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. A trail is laid, typically in white flour/chalk and the pack must find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! Although hashing has been described as a 'beer drinking club with a running problem' you will find that we are not drunken lunatics and quite sociable really!

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first outing and inexpensive (250B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais and cheaper again for under 17s - and the fee includes several free beers afterwards, often a beer stop during the run and occasionally even some snacks.

Bump as a reminder that the next Ubon Hash run will be on Saturday 6th January (this Saturday). Details above.

Also ... advance notice of the January run on Saturday January 3rd .....

Yes its that time of year again when Ubon Hash "goes out-station" to the Cambodian border in lower Ubon province. Once again we have kindly been invited to Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay, Nok and 'Gettomaster' Trond's place. If you have not been to Suan Loong Daeng farmstay before then you should know that a hash, followed by a party and a night's stay plus swimming options plus pool (the table variety), makes for a very pleasurable mini-break. Check out the location on this website www.suanloongdaengfarmstay.com

Look out for more details to come next week on this Isaan forum
