30-day extension of visa exempt stamp in Taichilek

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just arrived in Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption in my German passport. The stamp is valid until Dec 25. Can I still extend my stay via a border run in Taichilek? I have no prior ins and outs, and my last visit to Thailand with a visa exemption was in May.

I read elsewhere that a visa exempt stamp can be extended twice at a land border, or once at the immigration office. Can anybody confirm if this is still accurate?

Thanks!

You can do an extension of your 30 day visa exempt entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

You get a new entry when you do a border crossing not an extension. You could do one or 2 of them without a problem.

Thank you, Ubonjoe. I plan to stay in Thailand for about 30+20 days (with the extension or new land border entry), then leave for 10 days (airplane), and then stay another 20 days with a new exemption. Based on what I read on the current issues with visas, I am quite confused. Do you believe this will be achievable with normal visa exemption stamps, or will I need to apply for a dedicated tourist visa? Thanks!

You can do it with visa exempt entries. It would be best to get the 30 day extension. The entry by air after being out of the country for 10 days will certainly not be a problem.

You should go to an immigration office and apply for a 30 day extension of your 30 day entry. Mae Sai has been reported as turning people away and telling them to get the extension.
