The stuttering parrot
I don't know whether I should post this in the travel thread however I did see a response to an OPThe other day and I can't find it that martial law will still be in place in chiang Mai this new year and the streets have to be clear by midnight or 1am. For people heading to areas I thought we should know where just in case it impedes on your intended party plans. If true unaware tourists etc will be in for a shock getting sent home early on New Year's Eve ? Thanks
Rooo
Do not confuse Martial Law & curfew.

KhunBENQ
Curfews resulting from the coup have all been lifted. I do not know whether there are specific closing hours for entertainment venues in Chiang Mai. Closing hours are not new. Probably there will also be an exception to that for New Year. Sure nobody will be sent home on New Years Eve from public streets or places.. The only possible restriction might apply to consuming alcohol on public places/streets/transport stations etc. This is under consideration but not decided yet (as far as I know). ExPratt
I didn't know there was one for quite a while now If there was then I would have inadvertently broken it in Bangkok, Pattaya and Patong, nothing mental , 2am ish. No sign of people scurrying home at Midnight
smotherb
Thanks that's cleared that up! This really hasn't cleared anything up. Yes, curfew could be imposed. Yes, a ban on alcohol could be mandated. No, neither have yet been done. Will either be enforced? That is the question.
KhunBENQ
Curfews resulting from the coup have all been lifted. I think you might find they are still in place in Pattani etc....... Maybe, I gave up following this southern muslim mess and the topic starter asked about Chiang Mai. Yes, a ban on alcohol could be mandated. Yet again and to make it clear: there is no talk about a general "alcohol ban". Its just about consuming in public places. And I am not among those walking with a bottle through the streets. Its just about consuming in public places."
