Wife's brother arrested.

Featured Replies

A distant relation of mine only got 2 years for chaining up an ATM machine and ripping it out with his pick-up.

What's his name, Alex or Sean?

Didn't hear anything about the case sentenced already.

This was years ago and he's a Thai cousin of mine.

Ask which police station he was arrested at and then get someone to get a copy of the arrest report.

It's just a misdemeanor he'd get six months max or grease the system and he could be released on a few years probation.

It's really weird. It is not even bail. It's more like a fine that gets him out of jail. The bondsman guy just covers the fine. After a few face to face meetings he walks free and the bondsman gets his 80K back. He keeps the 10K I give him. So it's not a bond in lieu of appearance. It's actually an 80K get out of jail card (or it's all a scam).

Why would I pay for the kid?

It kinda goes with the whole deal. The trade off for landing a hot arse little Thai thang ( like nothing an old guy like me would ever get in these parts) is that I have to send some baht down to the lower deck on occasion.

You have to know when to fold your hand and when to raise. If the BIL has no property, job, or prospects to pay back the bail bondsman and this is not a first offense, it is time to fold. The bail put up will be to delay court appearance, he is already in jail so he will face a judge eventually, unless his lawyer can delay past statue of limitation time. This is quite expensive and think of doubling down on a pair of duces. I think your understanding of what is going to happen is largely incorrect, maybe ypu misunderstood someone in this daisy chain.

First you say it's coming out of your pocket, then you say the wife can earn more money than you and she's paying.

You have answered your own conundrum. It's the wifes problem. Forget about it.

If it was you paying, look at it this way. The kid is a loser. He is going to do something stupid at some point in the future, especially if he thinks the farang will pay him out of trouble, so likely it will cost you more "bail" in the future. Or he will sit around the house doing nothing, wanting money for motorcycles, beer and "karaoke".

This could be the blessing you were looking for. He just saved you money.

Some guys get all the luck.

Wife's going to call on Monday but the locals already know that there is a Farang involved. I'll probably just get one of the lawyers I used before to get me the skinny.

A farang is involved in a necklace snatch from overseas??

How long are your arms?

Place your wallet in your back pocket, your hands firmly under your butt; and sit on all of them.

DLock I spend a lot of time sitting around the house and spend a lot on whiskey, bikes and karaoke biggrin.png

It's a scam, they are definitely lying about some stuff. But as you said, if you want to keep hitting that hot little piece of ass you have to pass some money down the chain.

Ditching her and getting a replacement is one solution, but maybe you're not in a position to do that the moment or you are in love.

Just remember how much fun you could have in Thailand with 80,000 baht though

...actually, to be fair, so do I.

But try asking the Thai brother in law to support those habits and see how far it gets us.

16 years for snatching a gold chain..someone is pulling my leg...

Well if it's your wife's money you are reduced to bystander anyway so why ask us?

To start 100's of Thai man, Thai Family, Thai wife bashing posts ?

You mean like this one for example ?

Her husband brother probably needs the money for a new Motorcycle.

Exactly.

do everyone a favor who weres a gold chain and let him stay in prison, to much of this going on,,,

Sounds like a family scam to get 80k out of you

Was there a buffalo involved?

I'll be on Khao San road in 30 minutes. Please send your brother-in-law to mug me. I could do with the extra cash.

She works in a casino. She often makes more money than me. She will be paying for this one.

Does the judicial process (of) buying your way out of jail sound possible for a loso?

If it is a loso that either has the money or is being sponsored, then yes, of course it is possible.............................wink.png

Edit: Doesn't matter what class of person it is, its all about the money.

Nobody in Thailand goes to jail for 16 years for stealing a gold chain ...

Apart from the fact you are quite likely the subject of a scam, here is my understanding of your post.

If a charge is in the court it will be handled by the public prosecutor unless the victim of his crime is bringing a personal case. In the latter he can pay the victim to withdraw the case. In the former you might be able to 'negotiate' with the public prosecutor but that is bribery and if you are British there is a law that makes you a criminal for any act of bribery anywhere on the world. In any case bribery is a blight on society. Anyway......

The 80,000 is his bail. He can pay the 80,000 baht and be released from jail until his case is decided. He can also pay a lower sum to a bail bondsman but if he does a runner there will be trouble on its way to his family. The couple of thousand he has to pay is probably a proof of local residence surety if he lives outside the province in which he was arrested. He can ask for the case to be transferred to his local court.

Anyway, I would not get involved if I were you as any foreigner will be made the brunt of any problem and he will probably do a runner anyway, save the headache.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at it like you are. My wife is getting info from her rural Aunt. Her rural 6th grade educated Aunt made the mistake of mentioning a Farang. I think the original sentence was 25 years. Now it's 16. Not sure how you sentence someone who just got arrested 3 days ago.

The brother was my Muay Thai instructor before I met his sister in his gym. He was a solid citizen until his wife and kid died in a car accident. A couple of years of drink and drugs and he is what he is. We may have to hire a lawyer just to get some clarity.

If that`s true than this is a sad case.

My advice is this; if morally you feel obliged to help your BiL, than first get your wife to make a few phone calls to gain confirmation of the facts. Then if you can afford it, bail out your BiL or help him the best you can. If and when this is archived, then make it absolutely clear both to the family and your wife that this is the last time the BiL can expect your help.

That`s what I would do, but of course it`s up to you.

OP.

Someone is yanking your chain.

Why would you even consider bailing out a criminal.

Let him stay in Jail

Send 10,000 and than more and more maybe a lawyer fix just another 50,000

In jail no need ever to send money

I think the OP is more worried about his "cute little Thai thing" giving him the boot for not being a mug. I'm sure there are plenty more she can meet in the casino.
