Ubon Hash House Harriers - January Run at Suan Loong Daeng Farmstay - Saturday 3 January 2015 3pm

Yes its that time of year again when Ubon Hash "goes out-station" to the Cambodian border in lower Ubon province. Once again we have kindly been invited to Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay, Nok and 'Gettomaster' Trond's place. A hash, followed by a party and a night's stay, makes for a very pleasurable mini-break. Check out the location on this website www.suanloongdaengfarmstay.com

The run/walk will start at 3pm prompt on the first Saturday in January, so a good opportunity to kick away those New Year blues. If you want to have a relaxed start and give yourself some time to check into your accommodation then it would be a good idea to aim to get there a bit earlier than 3pm. It should take about 90 minutes to drive from downtown Ubon, less if you are a speed merchant.

There are rooms available at the farmstay, for those that get their bookings in quickly. Accommodation prices are also on the farmstay's website. Those who miss the cut can stay at a local resort at about 500ish baht. If you need a lift from/to Ubon e-mail me and I will try to sort something out. However, you must contact Trond directly to book accommodation at the farmstay or locally; if you do not have his e-mail or facebook address use the contact details on the farmstay's website, or contact me (PM if looking at this on Thaivisa.com) and I will put you in touch.

After the run we will have the usual circle (normal hash fees apply, normal free beer). Then the partying begins. There will be some free food; the excellent kitchen will otherwise be open for paid-for food in the evening and breakfast. Drinks, at reasonable prices, are to be paid for. A pool table in the bar at Suan Loong Daeng and swimming pool are available, so remember to bring your swimming costume if you want to cool off! Dancing is free. Those of you who can manage hangover breakfasts will know that the choices are really good.

Directions from Ubon: take highway 24 to Det Udom then 2171 to Nam Yuen. At Nam Yuen turn right (westwards) along highway 2248. The farmstay is 13 kilometres from that junction on the southern (left side) of the 2248.
From Kantharalak: take highway 221 south and turn left (eastwards) along 2248. The farmstay is 20 kilometres from that junction on the southern (right side) of the 2248.
A great event - be there!

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few experienced hashers and wanabee enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. Non-running social members who like to drink beer rather than take any exercise are welcome provided they pay the hash fee and don't drink all the beer while the rest of us are out on trail!

A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! {the latter bit is modified of course when we are out-stationed, when anything goes}.

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (200B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.

This location is the BEST for the Hash in Ubon, unequivocally, it has everything. Wonderful farm grounds, "din daeng" tracks throughout, the most affable host .... but too many stray dogs at the base camp, kid bit under the table; he won't go back

Sorry to hear you had trouble from the dogs on your prior visit Patriot. I was not aware their had been a problem.

Probably not stray dogs. Trond and Nok are dog lovers and at my last count there had 12 under their charge. Once bitten twice shy literally applied here - can understand your son's unwillingness to revisit! Please do catch up with us again on some future hash closer to Ubon town

Hope that it was a one off - particularly as I'll be partying with my 5 year old tomorrow at Suan Loong Daeng

Just send us your wife Sandgroper. Well make do with that tongue.png

You will be happy to know that she, along with the young "FRB" will be in attendence.

She'll probably have a couple of beers on my behalf, she's thoughtful like that !

Have a good one,cheers burp.gif.pagespeed.ce.RBpw6FUyRRx8h9ZhP6

Thanks FG, we would have been there but I am celebrating Christmas and New Year in sunny Qatar ... finish on the 8th January.

My wife and kids loved the farm, and Trond let us go for a wonderful walk around the farm the following morning .... superb!

I, like Sandgroper, will be commiserating on the 3rd.

Have a good one!!

Final reminder for the hash at Suan Loong Daeng near Nam Yuen in southern Ubon province on Saturday 3rd January.

Hashed before and not doing anything important on Saturday? Why not join us

Not hashed before - why not give it a whirl. Gentle exercise walk is within the bounds of the very user-friendly Ubon Hash. We even accept social-only joiners

The weather will be ideal if the last days and weeks are anything to go by (but bring a jumper for the evening)

Accommodation can be fixed, but also no problem if you want to get back home after an afternoon and early evening of social activities

Further details in post 1.

Enjoy guys. One day I will get down to Tronds place for this particular Hash. If we are back in Ubon next Xmas holidays will try and get there

If I remember right, we were 13 hashers including the hare, who had set a great run...........whistling.gif
