IT Courses / Jobs in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just been offered a job with the British Council in Bangkok.

They're willing to pay for my partners flights and provide him with an education visa for the duration of my contract (1 year) so that he can move with me.

We are both from the UK but he's not a teacher, he's an IT Support Analyst.

He's willing to relocate with me but would like to earn some form of income while we live there. Should no jobs be available, he's considered taking a course somewhat relative to his career.

If anyone could provide any help on either jobs or courses for expats in IT, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance!

As far as I know, he could not get a work permit to work legally in Thailand if he would be working doing anything that the Thais could do themselves, that includes IT.

Education visas are mostly used for learning Thai, Muay Thai, massage and possibly other languages.. he could possibly do IT courses in Thailand but I would be surprised if he could get an Education Visa for that.

and even if he could get the Education visa for that, he still wouldn't be able to get a work permit to work IT legally in Thailand.

so, options include both the education visas (and he does need to go to the courses) or teaching English

basically, we are both in the same boat. both work in IT but I personally couldn't get a work permit because I went to College and they require a Bachelors Degree

It's highly unlikely that he would be able to get a job here. Local staff are cheaper, speak the language and require a lot less paperwork.

I also doubt whether he'd find any worthwhile course in IT here given the thoroughly mediocre level of IT in Thailand.

His best bet would be to become an English teacher, assuming he can speak, read and write English, and preferably is a native speaker. A quick TEFL course here and he'd be set to earn a pittance. Of course, he'd need to change the ED visa to a non-imm B visa, but that's not too hard.
