December 20, 201411 yr My Samsung air conditioner has a "Heat " option" Anyone know what this is supposed to do. Last few evenings have been a bit chilly so thought I'd try the "heat" to maybe take the chill off the evening. All it seemed to do was blow out room temperature air same as in fan mode. The Thai instructions say something about outside temperature but didn't make a lot of sense. I'm guessing the "heat" would be generated by some kind of reverse refrigeration cycle so I don't expect it to be HOT but mode that boasts "heat" should at least give out a little warmth.
December 20, 201411 yr I have only ever seen a couple of reverse-cycle AC's in Thailand - and the Daikin Urusara is the only current one I can think of. It's likely you just have a generic remote - but to really test it, put on the heat mode, then set the target temp to something in the 30's - if it's a reverse-cycle unit, you should start to feel proper hot air coming out of it within a few minutes. December 20, 201411 yr Reverse Air cons are quite popular in China being as its blistering in summer and freezing in winter. Like the old blow heaters you used to get in the UK they are not very good, Most air'cons are more or less on the ceiling so the hot air does not sink if the room is cold , you literally have to stand in front of it to get any benefit. Point the "Fins: straight down rather than into the room . If there is no warm air coming out of it to start with , then perhaps its not what you think it is
December 21, 201411 yr Author Tried all that Set the temperature to 30 and let it run for about half an hour put my face right in front of it, then the wife's face - but still only blowing room temperature air There must be some point to having the "heat" mode

My guess is, not properly programmed, or not properly ID'ing your model (whichever method it uses), so allowing the heat option in error.
