"Visa-run" to Cambodia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'll be travelling to Thailand (first time) in Januari and will be there for about 6 weeks total. I'm from a country that doesn't need a tourist visa for the first 30 days.

I'm also planning a short trip to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat (flying there). Will probably stay there for 2 nights or so.

Never intended this as a visa-run but if I plan the trip to Cambodia after 3 weeks in Thailand, can I return and spend the rest of my 3 weeks without a tourist visa?

You will get a 30 day visa exempt entry when your arrive. You can then go out of the country and get another one when your return without a problem.

do you know if it's possible to do this a couple of times? Ie if someone wants to stay 3 months without applying for a visa.

thks

If you stayed for the entire 30 days and just did an out and back for another entry you could possibly do one of them.

A 30 day extension of a visa exempt entry is now possible at immigration for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thks. So basically arrive, stay 30 days, do one visa run and then after another 30 days get an extension?

That would be possible. But if you did the 2nd entry by land you would only get 15 days unless your are from a G7 country.

It's for my wife she has a uk passport so she could do by land I guess.

many thanks

So, passport holders from United States, Canada, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan get more than 15 days via a land crossing?

Since November 1st of 2013 they get 30 days at a border crossing.

Oh nice. Haven't kept up with that too much, not holding any such passport.

Hi,

Getting confused about visa runs, i arrived at xmas, did a visa run end of jan which gave me a right to stay until 25th Feb. I'm planning to go to Cambodia next week on 25th and come back to thailand a few days later, would that be ok?(would I get another 30 days?). Ideally i would go back to the UK mid april, could i do another visa run end of march? Most important is the one next week, if i have to leave end of march then so be it.

Many thanks in advance for whoever can help me

You could be questioned on your next entry since that will be your 3rd visa exempt entry and staying for the entire 30 days each time. You should have at least the equivalent of 10k baht (20k is best) with you to show or you could be denied entry.

You could of extended you first visa exempt entry for 30 days instead of doing a border run. You could also extend the one you have now or the one you should get when you return after your trip to Cambodia.

You should of gotten a tourist visa before making your trip. Counting on doing visa runs now is not advised if you plan on staying longer than 30 days.

Thks a lot for the info.
