A follow up on my problem. Mid January I got the fridge replace by a new one under warranty. First 3 days it was fine, then the same problem started again.

I'm not talking about some annoying popping sounds, but really loud bangs several times a day.

I have an open concept kitchen. The kitchen is 4 meters wide, then we have a 8 meter wide living room, and at the end is the bedroom. With the bedroom door closed, I wake up several times during the night from the loud bangs. Just to give you an impression how loud the noises are.

I have since moved the fridge to the storage room and decided to record the noises. I placed a microphone in the storage room continuous recording , and while sitting at my computer in the office, which is beside the living room I marked the time when I heard in the office when the fridge made the loud bang.

I have forwarded those sound files to the dealer and he want to return my money, or change the fridge one last time, but I have to sign a document that I will not claim warranty for the same problem again.

If I still had my old fridge I would happily accept the refund, but now I have to buy a new fridge which will be considerably more expensive. They also want to exchange it for a a previous series side by side, but under the same condition that I can't claim noises again.

Now I have a hard time to make a decision, because I can't believe these noises are normal, but it is also a hard to believe that I got two fridges with the same problem.

The dealer tell me I'm the first one ever to complain, but then I did a simple search in Google and got this result.

It seems that this is a common problem with the new generation fridges, and not only with Samsung, however they stick out.

So dear Hilary, what should I do?

Did you level the fridge, or is it self-leveling? Does it make a gurgling sound? Is it 220 volts?

The fridge is leveled and make all kind of noises, from gurgling to knocking to cracking to banging, name it and will make that kind of noise. The prior one made the identical noises, so in fact I'm thinking now I threw 30.000 Baht down the drain.

I have the feeling, but that can be a false impression, that when it is cooler outside that the noises increase.

Tonight I found a 21.6Q Hitachi side by side in clearance for 29.9000 Baht, priced down from 59.000. R-M600ETH.

I am aware this is a conventional motor and not an inverter fridge, but on the energy sticker is listed 637kWh/Y while my Samsung inverter has 540 kWh/Y electrical usage on the sticker.

100kWh/Y means 40 Baht in electricity extra a month. I think I can live with that.

Should I go for it? Any thoughts about Hitachi fridges?
